Defending the Community Sector - Open Meetings for all Community Workers

category national | worker & community struggles and protests | press release author Wednesday August 17, 2011 17:12author by SIPTU Community - SIPTU

Regional Forums (Cork, Limerick, Galway, Dublin, Sligo)

The SIPTU Community Campaign will be holding a series of regional forums entitled “Building a Strong Union Voice & Defending the Community Sector”. The forums will discuss the current and imminent threats facing the community sector and how community workers can best unite to protect projects, jobs and communities.

The last three years have seen deep funding cuts to community projects. However we have also seen workers and activists defend their projects like never before.  Undoubtedly, without union organisation and mobilisation the cuts suffered would have been a lot worse for workers and communities.

The meeting will be addressed by local and national activists, SIPTU organisers and officials. There will also be an open discussion on the issues and the way forward.

All community workers are encouraged to attend both union and non union members.
