Gay Blueshirt Mitchell becomes Eoghan Harris's candidate

category national | politics / elections | other press author Sunday October 02, 2011 16:25author by Groucho Marx

Eoghan Harris tried to run the 1997 election through Derek Nally, former head of the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors. He tried to destroy the Mary McAleese campaign by using Nally. That is where Harris's description of McAleese as a 'Tribal Time Bomb' came from. The bomb blew up in Harris's face when Nally found out. He ditched Harris and his political playmate, John Cadden, when he found out that he was a patsy. Nally was an unusual policeman who challenged the Garda 'Heavy Gang' in the 1970s.

The info is here:
http://www.indymedia.ie/article/81368

Today, Harris wants to run the election through Gay Mitchell, see:
is-get-the-gag-taken-off-gay-mitchell-and-let-him-at-it-2893566.html">http://www.independent.ie/opinion/columnists/eoghan-har....html

The first outing of the new strategy was on Newstalk today:
http://media.newstalk.ie/podcast/26542/popup

It is up to the Irish people to see whether they want the Irish equivalent of the US 'Tea party' to influence their affairs. It will destroy Mitchell, but Harris hopes it will preserve the reactionary separation of northern and southern politics.

Gay mitchell also wrote a letter looking for clemency for a criminal. But you won't see him being harangued like david norris.

Yet the crime that gay mitchell's "friend" had committed was murder.

Its interesting to note how selective gay mitchell is in petitioning particular murder cases. Only those killing abortionists need apply.

Troy Davis, I'm afraid you were out of luck there!!

This guy is a right wing conservative nutjob. He was a part of a FF government that bankrupted us all and made us all foot the bill for widescale church paedophilia and introduced the blasphemy law. Nobody in their right mind should vote for him.

Norris is a pussycat by comparison.

Gay Mitchell indeed sought clemency for a vicious murderer who shot a woman and then raped her as she lay dying... Tut Tut Tut, and then he has the gall to challenge J118's past!?

.........clarify what that post meant. Your attempt at irony was a misfire and sarcasm is the lowest form of wit. We'd like to advance the

debate here, not just provide a receptacle for one-liners from the spawn of Kevin Myers.

Can lefty explain how he manages to put Mitchell in FF?Or are my eyes acting up?

author by Leftypublication date Tue Oct 04, 2011 15:02author address author phone

oops sorry!

He just seems so much like a FF politician that I made an understandable mistake ;-)

ok I take it back. I was wrong. Gay mitchell is indeed a right wing conservative abortionist killer sympathiser but he was definitely NOT a part of the FF government that bankupted us or signed the church indemnity and passed the blasphemy law, (but I'm pretty fucking CERTAIN he would have objected to neither!).

Indymedia is about bringing balance. The media have let gay mitchell off the hook largely. He should get properly grilled here!

"Mitchell becomes Eoghan Harris's candidate"

The kiss of death for Mitchell. Has Fine Gael learned nothing about what happens to those that align themselves with Harriss? Are they not talking anymore to John Bruton? He could give them chapter and verse regarding the dead hand that Harriss brings to wherever party he stumbles into.

He's already fairly hard-boiled. Still, I'll throw in a bag of charcoal.

I think someone should ask him whether he supported the paras on Bloody Sunday. And the asSASsins shoot2kill policy. Or internment, human and degrading treatment(EUphemism for torture, speaking of which, I can't get a letter in edgewise asking what the candidates feel about our de facto embedding in NATO's adventures via Shannon).

not so much the X, more the ZZZZ factor. They're on Kenny at the minit lauding MD's judicious choice of TIES.

Answerer, I agree that he should be "grilled" but there is no need for the abusive content
"Gay mitchell is indeed a right wing conservative abortionist killer sympathiser but he was definitely NOT a part of the FF government that bankupted us or signed the church indemnity and passed the blasphemy law, (but I'm pretty fucking CERTAIN he would have objected to neither!)"
- which is purely personal musing and if something in a similar vein had been written about another candidate - say David Norris - it would have been zapped in minutes!

FF/FG are cut from the same cloth.
Norris has some semblance of independent thought, however self-obsessed.
The other two are party animals in the worst sense of the term. And interchangable in their behaviour.

Maybe the 'abuse' is in the eye of the beholder, this time?Mitchell is probably further up the papal arse than any FFr, and than even Norris would incline. He reeks of Opus Dei prim puritanism. He has Maggie's fucking lips for starters, and her warm and concerned constipated eyes.

The latest poll shows clearly the "Harris Effect" His deadhand has fallen on Mitchell and he will do the same to Gallagher as he will try to regain some credibility by switching his allegiance to him. Watch next week's Sindo.

Excellent analysis!

Harris really played a role in electing Mary Robinson. His interference in 1997 ensured the election of Mary McAleese. This year his activities may well result in the election of McGuinness.

Instead of blaming himself for the results of Gay Mitchell's disastrous bash the provos strategy he blames, you guessed it, RTE and (you didn't guess it) the Irish Independent. Forgetting he did actually later apologise for calling Mary McAleese a 'tribal time bomb' (1997's equally disastrous bash the quasi-provo strategy), he now says, 'I have no regrets about calling her a tribal time bomb'.

So crass, you have to read it:
http://www.independent.ie/opinion/columnists/eoghan-har....html

This guy's claim to fame is that he wrote some notes for Mary Robinson in 1992 and before that helped turn the Workers' Party in to a neo-unionist stalinist rump. For self-promotion in writing reactionary nonsense, you have to hand it to him, what a prat. Very good of Rupert Murdoch initially and Sir Anthony O'Reilly latterly to pay him for sucking ideas out of his fevered thumb. Money for old rope.

Harris was discussed on the Marian Finucane Show this am. Gemma Hussey was somewhat critical of Harris and his claims of death threats. Another pundit pointed out that the Sindo had opposed the peace process.

Harris rang in!

He tried to shout everyone down bur Marian stood up to him: "You have a fine strong voice Eoghan but others will have their say". He didn't come out of it too well.

Charlie Flanagan is writing in todays Sindo about the assassination of British spymaster Ewart-Biggs in 1976 and how this makes McGuinness unfiit to be president.

Well maybe we should have a look at the past of Mr Harris: Eoghan was in OSF/SFWP when the OIRA killed RUCmen in bank robberies, when they they killed civilians working in RUC/Barmy bases, when the OIRA blew up the PARAs officers mess but killed 7 cleaning women (bomb went off at wrong time).

This is not a criticism of the actions of the OIRA, it is a criticism of the hypocrisy of Eoghan Harris.

Harris has blood on his hands.

Eoghan Harris suffered a rare sideswipe on Marian Finnucane's radio programme on RTE RADIO ONE on Sunday 9 October 2011.

Former Fine Gael minister Gemma Hussey said she wanted to say something on Martin McGuinness. Fianna Fail supporting Marian was more than happy to oblige, thinking perhaps that there was to be some McGuinness bashing.

Instead Gemma noted what is obvious to readers of the rag every week, but is rarely mentioned on Marian's radio programme, that the Sunday Independent seemed to be having an anti Sinn Fein day. She also mentioned that Eoghan Harris claimed to have received a death threat and that a reporter from that paper claimed to have have had a rough time with McGuinness supporters. Ken Murray noted that had the the Sunday Independent had its way there would have been no Hume Adams talks and no peace process.

Unused to such clear criticism, the Sindo editorial team went into spasmodic shock. Eoghan was dispatched to clarify matters and to get the spokespeople for the establishment back in line. He barged his way on to the programme and laid down the law, Joe McCarthy style. Gemma Hussey had not demonstrated supine subservience to the Sindo's sermons. Eoghan made the very prim and proper ex-blueshirt sound subversive.

He didn't get it all his own way and was sent wittering back into the outer darknss from which he came. The two segments are in the attached AUDIO, first Gemma Hussey and Ken Murray, then Eoghan Harris yapping down the telephone line at Hussey and Murray.

Is the long icy grip of Sindoism slipping, or is it just a Presidential election effect?

Note that Hussey said merely that she was sorry if she 'upset' Eoghan. She did not withdraw the tenor of her remarks, perhaps knowing full well that the person most identified with Gay Mitchell's disastrous Sinn Fein basing strategy is none other than Eoghan Harris.

A lot of comments deride Sindo bias and raimeis by turncoat ex-senator Harris. Fine. But what, apart from griping, are people doing about the shallowness of Sindo columnists? The Sindo is a lucrative business that gets its main revenue from advertising. If enough people give up buying the product as a protest against editorial bias the editor might have second thoughts. It's time for gripers to pass on their gripes by word-of-mouth to friends and acquaintances. Individuals can be asked, in private conversations, to agree to give up buying the paper for a three-month trial period. Individuals who so agree could then send brief letters to the editor announcing their decision and stating the reasons. Such letters would not be printed of course, but if a couple of hundred of them arrived at Middle Abbey Street over a period of a few weeks the coin might drop and the management might conclude that it would be good for business to treat readers as being more subtle than editors and columnists hitherto seem to suppose.

"We cannot prevent the blackbirds of evil flying over our heads, but we can prevent them making a nest in our hair."

The Chinese proverb is a guide to good politics. We can't stop Martin McGuinness standing for President. But we can prevent him importing into the Irish Republic the tribal narratives of a minority of northern nationalists.

Martina Devlin, in the Irish Independent, speaks for that minority: "I wish the civil rights movement could have brought about reform, but it was not effective -- unfortunately, I don't believe advances would have happened without the IRA campaign."

Devlin may not realise her apologia is anathema to most of us in the Irish Republic. RTE News programmes cannot enlighten her. As the past few weeks showed, they too are out of touch with middle Ireland.

http://www.independent.ie/opinion/columnists/eoghan-har....html

For the last few weeks Harris has been denying that Catholics were repressed in Northern Ireland from 1921 - 1972. Not just a denial of the necessity of the IRA campaign ( which would be understandable) but a denial that there was even repression in the North under Stormont.

This time though hes going for another Independent Group journalist who writes for the Irish Independent. He won't be able to suppress her response.

But I'm inclined to be glad we have these Myerishmen.. they signpost the mentality driven by the more pervasive posse of more subtle worm-pens in our manufactured 'mainstream' consensuality.

Sorta early warning system for the evolution of the specious(sic).
