Introduction to Water Fluoridation:

The Republic of Ireland (RoI) is the only European Country with a mandatory national legislation requiring artificial fluoridation of drinking water. Ireland began in 1964 after the introduction of the “Fluoridation Waters Supply Acts” in 1960. Most developed countries, including Japan and 97% of the western European population, do not consume fluoridated water. The Department of Health and Children and their appointed board of experts “The Irish Expert Body On Fluorides’ and Health” support the process of fluoridation of our piped drinking water supply on the basis that it prevents tooth decay without any adverse effects to human health.(See Point #2) This is widely disputed by many experts across the globe.

The Health Authority in Ireland until recently sourced Hexaflu- orosilicic acid for water fluoridation from Spain which is produced by a company called Derivados Del Fluor. Hexafluorosilicic Acid is an industrial waste from the phosphate industry. The Irish company that imports the product to Ireland is Chemifloc Ltd. They are located in Shannon, Co. Clare and the company is responsible for supplying each of our County Councils with the fluoridation chemicals added to our water supply and have done so since 2005. Ireland currently spends €4.8 million annually on this process.
Where Westmeath Environment Stands:

We believe that the Irish Government and the Department of Health & Children has no right to forcefully medicate us without our consent. We believe we have a right to choose if we want to have fluoride added to our public water supply and leaves us with no choice but to consume this toxic water. For those individuals who would like to have fluoride they can get a tablet. There is no doctor in the world who would prescribe a drug to a patient without meeting them. Fluoridation is a medical treatment through a one-size-fits-all approach regardless of age, health or fitness.
