SWP rally tonight - ask them about SIPTU?

category national | bin tax / household tax / water tax | news report author Wednesday October 29, 2003 20:41author by SIPTU hack Report this post to the editors

There is an SWP rally organised tonight on the bin tax issue. Given that they are claiming that their man in SIPTU, Derek Delaney, is "the anti-bin tax candidate" this would seem to be the perfect opportunity to ask them what they think they are playing at.

BIN CHARGES: MAINTAIN NON PAYMENT. VICTORY TO THE BINTIFADA!

Socialist Worker Rally: 8pm Wednesday 29th October, Wynns Hotel, Middle Abbey Street.

Speakers: Brid Smith (Jailed Bin Tax Protester), Shay Ryan (Co-ordinator Ringsend Anti Bin Tax Campaign)

The SWP didn't even notify the other bin tax prisoners of the meeting!

Aw would ye leave them alone, they're entitled to hold a bloody meeting!

DEREK DELANEY IS A BIN WORKER, SO WHY CANT HE BE ANTI BIN TAX.
AS YOU ALL AGREE BIN TAX IS A STEP TOWARDS PRIVITISATION.
SO AS A BIN WORKER IM SURE THIS IS A FIGHT AGAINST PRIVITISATION TOO.

If I was asked to make a movie about the upcoming VP election for SIPTU, like all the other SWP front projects I would do something highly original.

On this project I would take one bin worker plucked from obscurity, let him become a martyr in his job for refusing to implement non-collection and hey presto a well known candidate loved and admired by all anti-bin tax campaigners.
Who knows it just might work. Forget the politics, it's all about publicity baby.

What depot is derek delaney working in?

If anyone attends that SWP rally on bin tax they should ask why they oppose blockades now that non collection is being extended accross all areas. In DLR they refused to support a blockade of the Sandyford depot today, they also tried to hamper blockades this week in the estates in DLR.

Why is this? Are there any state agents in the leadership of the SWP? Are you supporting the Council's non collection tactic? Why do nothing when your neighbours bin are not being collected?

You might also ask how RBB can carry out the duties of DLRATBT Chair, Save DL Baths Chair, IAWM Chair. No one person could do all these jobs and at the same time lead the SWP. He is treating the campaigns with contempt and just using the positions to raise his own profile.

How many came to the rally last night? How did it compare to the 500 strong SP event?

Between 55 and 60 people attended last night.

I think that the SWP's use of the term 'bintifada' shows alot about them. It shows up that they are not taking the whole thing seriously. It shows up their immature politics and their crass sloganeering.

PS: If ye are making a link between the Intifada and the bin tax battle, in Palestine would you propose that the oppressed Palestinian people 'meet and greet' the Israeli soldiers when they come to attack people?

author by arf arfpublication date Thu Oct 30, 2003 19:36author address author phone Report this post to the editors

the SWP has shown that they are 'International Socialists' meaning: more interested in the Global than the Local - and address the Local in the context of the Global.

All fine, but they shouldn't expect local citizens to be interested in their dogma.

Although I dissagre with the politics of the swp I want to say well done brid for the stand you took on the bix tax.
