Black Pigs Dyke being quarried

A Two Thousand year old earthworks at Ardkill mountain faces more distruction after local firm John Nulty Ltd have illegely extended their quarry without planning permission.

The ancient site ar Ardkill mountain, Carrickaboy, Co Cavan known as the Black Pigs Dyke has already lost over three hundred yards to the quarry works on the mountainside. Now the owners have purchased another large area on the western slopes of the hillside and have begun clearing earth to prepare for more blasting which will endanger more sections of the listed site. The quarry owners do not have planning permission to carry out these new works. John Nulty Ltd., are major suppliers of gravel and stone to Cavan County Council who continue to turn a blind eye to this activity.
Efforts to raise the matter with National Monuments in Dublin continue to be ignored.
