A Derry journalist has made legal history by successfully challenging an airport who took his photograph without his consent.

Greg Harkin - an Editorial Director for New Projects with Local Press Ltd, publishers of the Derry Journal - took action against Manchester Airport after an incident there last year.

He successfully argued that taking pictures of airport passengers without their consent was a breach of the Data Protection Act.

Now the airport has agreed, with possible legal implications for other airports in Britain who insist on taking pictures of all passengers from Northern Ireland.

Last night Mr Harkin said: "This is an important victory for passengers from across Northern Ireland who have endured many years of discrimination simply because they are from here.
