Re: IRSP Welcome Mobilisation Against Water Charges
The Irish Republican Socialist Party have welcomed the many hundreds of community and trade union mobilisation in its support for today’s Anti-Water Charges demonstrations in across the six counties.
Speaking following the march and rally in Derry, spokesperson for the IRSP John Hogan said: “Besides the wind and rain, today’s protests are to be seen as only the beginning. Credit has to be given to those who braved the weather to participate in the campaign against water charges. For us it shows the steadfast determination of our class to see the British Government and its six county administration scrap any notion of double taxation.
“Let no one be fooled into thinking that out of work and highly paid politicians will support us in the struggle ahead to prevent the privatisation of hundreds of public sector jobs and water charges. They are the one’s who openly agreed to ‘streamline’ the water service industry and attempt to force ordinary working class people into paying twice for our water.
In conclusion he said: " It is due to the campaign against the water charges that more and more of us are wise to the fact the people are being cheated by the usual motley crew in suits. Our party would encourage every community and residents group to take part in ongoing campaign from public meetings to demonstrations like what we have seen here today. We have to state it loud and clear, we will not accept the waters charges, we will not accept the privatisation and the loss to hundreds of public sector jobs."
