All summer long there were "so great rains, that produced greater floods than in the memory of man", wrote John Locke in 1673. The 17th century was full of exactly the same climate catastrophising we hear today.

Dr Kirsty Miller was shocked to discover clinical psychologists sharing memes mocking their patients on social media. The problem, she argues, is the profession has been taken over by Critical Social Justice ideology.

Fianna Fáil Ard Fheis

category national | summit mobilisations | event notice author Monday August 22, 2005 13:19author by guydebordisdead Report this post to the editors

Gleneagles Hotel Killarney

The Fianna Fáil Ard Fheis will take place in the Gleneagle Hotel Killarney on Friday the 21st and Saturday the 22nd October 2005.

This year’s Ard Fheis will see the Fianna Fáil organisation take centre stage. Vigorous debates among delegates on the major issues and policies of the day will be a priority, while we will also be focusing on the development of our party membership, our organisational structures, and the need for Fianna Fáil to assert its position as the most dynamic political party in Ireland today.

Since you have published this here I assume that this is an event open to the public. Or is it only open to those who can afford "democracy"?

"Vigorous debates among delegates on the major issues and policies of the day...". That's good satire, very biting and so straight-faced, it almost could be mistaken for sincerity. I like it.

Is this a good sign or a bad one, I ask myself. Someone has taken the trouble to post this here either to attract unwanted attention to this event (lets all pay them a visit and air a few of our grievances) or because they think there are votes to be had from among the Indemedia readership. Now, which is it I wonder!

Judging by other Indymedia posts from the original poster, I doubt very much that "guydebordisdead" is a "soldier of destiny".

My understanding is that only party members can attend. I could be wrong on that as I have never actually tried to attend one.

Isnt the purpose of these things to decide party objectives, etc?

All voters are stupid. Smile at them occasionally, they wont notice what we're doing, we hope. On your knees before any passing pillaging corporation. Let them have whatever they want. Hospitals, schools, and all those boring things - who cares! Keep saying how much we're spending on them and the stupid voters wont notice that we're destroying them. Anything else? No, that's about it really. Are ye all right for plannin' permission on Stephen's Green, Dermot? No bother at all, Ill get that sorted for ye! Were ye thinkin of makin a donation at all, I wonder?

Your dead right Ed, we are fuckwits 'cos we re-elect them. We say the opposition are worse and we justify voting for these muppets on this basis. Yeats had us sussed when he wrote September 1913. Its hard to believe his work was more appropriate to Ireland 2005 than Ireland 1913...

What need you being come to sense,
But fumble in a greasy till,
And add the halfpence to the pence
And prayer to shivering prayer, until
You have dried the marrow from the bone?
For men were born to pray and save:
Romantic Ireland's dead and gone,
It's with O'Leary in the grave.

Yet they were of a different kind,
The names that stilled your childish play,
They have gone about the world like wind,
But little time had they to pray
For whom the hangman's rope was spun,
And what, God help us, could they save?
Romantic Ireland's dead and gone,
It's with O'Leary in the grave.

Was it for this the wild geese spread
They grey wing upon every tide;
For this that all the blood was shed,
For this Edward Fitzgerald died,
And Robert Emmet and Wolfe Tone,
All that delirium of the brave?
Romantic Ireland's dead and gone,
It's with O'Leary in the grave.

Yet could we turn the years again,
And call those exiles as they were
In all their loneliness and pain,
You'd cry, "Some woman's yellow hair
Has maddened every mother's son":
They weighed so lightly what they gave
But let them be they're dead and gone,
They're with O'Leary in the grave.

W.B. Yeats.

Some incredible shite yesterday - FF mewling and squealing they're getting 'unfair' treatment because of Eddie Hobbs! RTE are now supporting the opposition in a biased way because they dared to show Hobbs programme! It's like bloody Stalinist Russia! Can there be a television service more in the pocket of the government than RTE. (Well, we'll ignore the US for the moment). Marianne Finucane replaced by Ryan Tubridy ! Hello??? Anybody????

A guy in the Irish Examiner (Noel Whelan, I think it was) claims the Irish Times is not generally supportive of FF. What planet does he live on!!!!!!!! Geraldine Kennedy must be taking dictation from Bertie Ahern every night, the bloody paper is so skewed in their favour.

FF and the opposition are locked into two immovable convictions about themselves:

1. FF are the only party of government. All opposition is really an impertinent nuiscance, to be dealt with viciously and ruthlessly. The electorate deserve to be punished if they dont agree.

2. The other partys all basically agree with 1 above! That's why they do nothing other than mimic bloody FF all the time.

Every time FF are legitimately criticised they are enraged and react like thugs - . It never crosses the dull-witted, bullying FF minds that they need to do something about the things we dont like. Instead they have now recruited the same PR suits who have managed to rehabilitate lunatics like Tony Blair. Its time to roar back at the them. We're no longer prepared to be told to shut up and do what we are told, never mind about all the naughty, stupid stuff, - or else.

But heres the worst thing: the rest of us go around as if we were suffering from some form of collective psychosis reciting the mantra: 'the others are worse, sure, the others are worse, the others are...' . Were we all labotomised without our knowledge? How do FF do that, exactly?

Gobshites! All of us! They couldnt possibly be worse! FF have had a gift the last 15-20 years. They were rubbish before that and they've been rubbish all along. The money has 98% more to do with the EU than anything FF are capable of thinking of. And look at the crap job theyve made of it! Schools, universities, hospitals, roads, social services - all a mess, badly funded and/or completely mismanaged. Nepotism and political placemen still running rife. Unions useless. Foreign companies running amok all over the place - actively encouraged to disrespect and abuse us (dont mind the leprechauns Shell, we'll sweep them out of yer way no bother! Here, give me another kick up the ****, please! I promise Ill pay you well for it.)

FF need to be voted out and kept out until they learn some respect and humility. As for the PD's - FF's biggest crime of all. If we dont get Piggy Harney and Mad Mick McDowells' fat, fascist fingers out of the pie soon, we'll probably be jailing 7-year olds...Oh, wait , they're already planning that! What more evidence do people need! Just dont vote for Fianna Fail - not 1st, 2nd, 3rd or any other preference...

Now theres one 'event' I would gladly take a day off work for!
What about it people? A demonstration of noise, colour, giant brown envelopes, effigies, voodoo dolls etc and all the left protest creativity we can muster.
Lets embarress, harass and deafen the bastards and give the media something to get their teeth into. They would welcome us (the media) with itchy fingers, straining ears and big eyes!
No more same o same o, party o, tally ho bullshit!
Any takers for the enemy at home?

This protest has the potential to be quite big. With good co-ordination of the left etc, it should be much bigger.
Only to eager to help out.

Squawk. how many gleneagles are there?
well more than there used to be. The Irish and british versions are large estates originally confiscated from peasants so that rich useless parasites could be shoot at birds. And the last 5***** hotel to get the name was the former bavarian Hq of Hitler.

Shoot that bird bertie.

Anyway, how are FF going to prepare for opposition? Because make no mistake that is what they are doing. They believe themselves, the party of barmen, gombeenmen, funeral parlours, and speculators to be the "natural party of government". Thus they will consider a "stay on the opposition benches" in their interest. How to lose their "dead weight" and ensure any coalition elected by "first time discontent youth voters" is discredited almost immediately.
And most of all the very wise amongst them will be planning the future of Mc Dowell. For he has assembled much power around him in these last years, and his ambition has not yet been completely declared. Ah! but there are many dark horses.
