The council started non-collection on some of the routes on the fringes of Cabra last week. A meeting called at short notice for St Finbarrs GAA club by the Cabra / Dunard / Navan rd campaign was attended by over 170 people last night.
It is expected in the next couple of weeks that the council will attempt to extend non-collection to the more central areas of Cabra so much of the discussion centred around how to respond to this. Options outlined in the leaflet circulated in advance of the meeting included
"Putting our own rubblish into the bin trucks - this is legal under Section 5 of the 1997 Litter Pollution act"
"Organising people to dump their rubbish in protest in a central public location"
"Blocking the trucks again"
Other options were raised from the floor during the meeting.
Speaking for the campaign Ciaran Perry several times emphasised that they did not want people to randomly dump rubbish around the area.
A second meeting for the Navan road area is being held in the Breffni Inn this evening at 8pm.
