ALL WELCOME - This Wednesday 6:30 pm

The new documentary of the historic struggle waged by Turkish and Kurdish workers against GAMA construction and the Irish Government, will be showing THIS WEDNESDAY in UL.

Day: Wednesday
Date: 1 Nov 2006
Time: 6:30
Venue: UL Students Union Building, Room 3

In 2005 a group of Turkish workers made history in Ireland when they took on their employer, Turkish-owned multinational construction giant GAMA.

Assisted by the Socialist Party, whose members first exposed the scandalous wages and conditions being paid by GAMA, they engaged in a bitter and hard fought battle which eventually brought GAMA to heel.

Now the Socialist Party has produced a new pamphlet and a DVD (with Frameworks Films) chronicling the GAMA workers' epic battle against this disgusting "modern form of bonded labour".

Revelations during the course of this struggle about the brutal exploitation of migrant workers, about the systematic theft of these workers’ wages by GAMA, and about the complicity of the Irish state and political establishment in, for years, turning a blind eye to what was happening, rocked Irish society at the time and will have lasting repercussions.

In making a stand against this modern day slavery, the GAMA workers, together with the Socialist Party, have struck a blow for the rights of migrant workers and workers generally. They have written one of the proudest chapters in Irish labour history.

Now you can see this documentary for free in UL this Wednesday (Nov 1st), starting at 6:30 sharp in the UL Students Union Building, Room 3!

Also, the DVD and pamphlet are available to buy off the Socialist Party website (see link)
