Screening of the multi award winning documentary on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict Occupation 101
Film screening hosted by the Letterkenny Amnesty International Group and the Irish Palestinian Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) in the Regional Cultural Centre, Port Road, Letterkenny, Co Donegal
@ 8pm on Wednesday 13 May.
Occupation 101 is one of the most important films to be made about Israel and Palestine. This 2006 documentary presents a comprehensive analysis of the roots of the conflict and examines what life is like for ordinary people under the Israeli military occupation.
“The makers of the film challenge many of the myths and confusion that characterises much of the debate about Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories,” said Sarah Clancy , Campaigns Officer with Amnesty International Ireland.
“Through interviews with leading Middle East scholars, peace activists, journalists, religious leaders, humanitarian workers and ordinary people Occupation 101 serves almost as a beginner’s guide to the conflict. It’s perfect for an Irish audience concerned about what they see and read, but unsure of the facts.
“Events in Gaza and southern Israel earlier this year shocked many Irish people and despite irrefutable evidence of war crimes we are little closer to seeing accountability and justice in the Middle East. Ordinary people can make a difference, they can create change and we hope everyone who sees the film will be willing to take action and get involved.”
