Around 500 protestors joined a protest march and rally called jointly by SIPTU and the Galway Says No to Health Cuts group on Saturday 25 September. The marchers, which included contingents from SIPTU, IMPACT, the Labour Party and the SWP, proceeded from the city's cathedral to the city's University Hospital.
Speakers (SIPTU Nursing rep Robert Burke, psychiatrist Peadar O'Grady, patient Orla Ni Chonrai and Sean Byrne of Galway Says No to Health Cuts) addressed the crowd.
The march was attended by local councillors and by Independent TD Noel Grealish, who has threatened to withdraw support from the government if the threatened cuts to the city's health services go ahead.
