Recording the Facts

The seminar takes place at the Riverbank House Hotel Wextord Town on 12/13 November 2010.

Ken Saro Wiwa and his comrades were hanged on 10 November 1995. The anniversary in 2010 marks that tragic event 15 years ago. Over those 15 years a Memorial Seminar has taken place in various locations throughout Ireland: Derry, Dublin, Cork, Mayo and in 2010 in Wexford Town. It serves to alert citizens about the use or misuse of national resources and the role of big business corporations in this activity.
The seminar begins with an overview of the rubber industry and its abuses along the Amazon River and in Africa. During these months 100 years ago in 1910 Roger Casement was investigating these abuses for the British Government as a response to a public outcry about the inhuman activity involved in the production of rubber as a natural resource for Western consumption. Dr. Angus Mitchell will open the seminar with this overview.
