On Tuesday 26th September, Magee Ogra Shinn Fein held a recruitment drive in the university grounds. The Magee cumann has been active in the University for a number years and still remains the only active political society on the campus. Ogra Shinn Fein were ecxluded from the freshers fayre as they refused to sign the political protocol which was introduced by the University of Ulster and endorsed by the Students Union. The protocol censors political activity and effectively meant that Ogra could not hand out any literature which which would identify them as being a political society. Undeterred by this absurd decision, the cumann set up outside the Sports Hall. read full story / add a comment

The Belfast High court today lifted most of the restrictions on the Raytheon 9. Veteran Civil Rights activist and revolutionary socialist Eamonn McCann told Blackshamrock.org today that he and the other 8 men facing charges relating to the decommissioning of Raytheon's computers are as of today no longer prevented from meeting up with each other, holding meetings in groups of more than 3, or from attending anti-war functions. Normal bail signing restrictions and the restriction of the nine from the Branch Road, where Raytheon has its premises in the Ulster Science and Technology park, are to remain in place. At the initial bail hearing, the judge had hinted that human rights legislation might prevent the High Court from preventing the Nine from exercising their right to freedom of assembly. The main effect of the lifting of these restrictions, said McCann, is that they are now no longer prevented from taking part in the campaign. read full story / add a comment

The 9 have been charged with the scheduled offences of Unlawful Assembly and Aggravated Burglary. Some (if not all) are appearing before 'Londonderry' Court House on Bishop St at 10 am today, Thursday. It's understood that some of them were held overnight at Coleraine PSNI barrackes and the rest at Strand Road Barracks. Not sure if the charges are under new so-called anti-terror laws, but will check. Noisy Protests have been called for 9.30 am outside Bishop st Court House in Derry. read full story / add a comment
