Following a very successful publicity campaign and public protest the serious issue of the Galway water crisis, how it is being handled, and how it is affecting the households of Galway, is now being highlighted. Outside City Hall, at a demonstration attended by 300 Galway residents, a letter of immediate demands was handed personally to the City Manager Mr. Mc Grath, and to those elected representatives that joined the protesters in solidarity. read full story / add a comment

This is the update:- *INO and Psychiatric nurses will continue to highlight inequity in the health system. They will use their votes in the General election. *Impact are planning a clerical workers strike which the health unions will support. *The consultants are refusing to re-negogtiate salaries and this is being buried by the gutterpress behind the nurses strike. *The junior doctors of Ireland are the only ones in the EU who have to a 60-70 hour week. read full story / add a comment

Venezuela has an interesting relationship with the energy giant Shell. They actually force them to pay taxes, and when they submit estimates which the govt doesn't believe, they audit them and present them with a bill. Today they told Shell to pay back over thirteen million dollars that the company was trying to weasel out of from 2005. The Irish government, of course, has a more compliant attitude to the big energy companies... read full story / add a comment

Sligo Borough Council voted down a motion condemning the governments policy which will tax aid speculators to build a private hospital on public land beside Sligo General Hospital. This is the first Council to endorse what amounts to the beginning of the privatisation of the Health Service. read full story / add a comment

Advocacy is an "in" term these days. When we advocate are we really pursuing the best interests of those on whose behalf we are advocating? Or are we only trying to placate and tell people what they want to hear? Then, too, there are often a lot of stock cribs which advocates may parrot easily off in the hope of gaining kudos or easy respect from the judges - the administrators and the public. read full story / add a comment

The Alliance for Natural Health filed nine applications to Annex 1 of the EU Food Supplement Directive and a further six to annex II in Late Feburary and early March 2007. The primary subjects of the applications were natural vitamins and minerals which were ommitted from the Directive's Annexes ('positive list'). On the 16th of March , the ANH informed the EU Commission that it had filed the applications and would scrutinise it and the European Food Safety Authority's (EFSA) procedures with regard to their evaluation. read full story / add a comment

In Rathmines, Harold's Cross and Crumlin we are to lose St Luke's Hospital. In fact, the hospital scandal stretches further than that. We are to lose a cancer hospital which will be amalgamated with St James, the high property values allowed Minster Mc Dowell's Sidekick to sign the lands to speculators. There is a clinic in that hospital complex used by the parents of kids with CF and asthma called Lukedoc/Dubdoc- one TD from the area put down the question re losing our clinic published below is the reply from Mary Harney. read full story / add a comment

The Govt will launch their delayed white paper on energy today. It will seek to explain how it makes economic sense to simply give away billions of euro worth of natural gas to the big energy companies. Note to Noel Dempsey: When they say the policy is good for the economy, it's supposed to be the IRISH economy, not the Norwegian one. read full story / add a comment

The domain name registrar GoDaddy distinguished itself in Ireland when it unceremoniously stopped directing traffic to the website of RateYourSolicitor without apparently providing their paying customer time to resolve the situation. Anyone who has had a child in primary school over the past couple of years has no doubt heard of the ‘Tesco Computers for Schools’ scheme whereby in return for vouchers collected when you do your shopping, Tesco give ‘free’ computer equipment to schools. You’ve probably also heard about Tesco’s ‘Sport For Schools and Clubs’ and SuperValu’s ‘Kids in Action’ schemes.
