A Mayor who is himself a Muslim stands up for Democracy, Freedom and Secularism.

Ahmed Aboutaleb, the mayor of Rotterdam -- the second-largest city in the Netherlands and one of the largest ports in the world -- lashed out at Muslims living in the country saying if they didn't like freedom of speech, they should "f**k off".

"It is incomprehensible that you can turn against freedom," he said as he appeared on television program Nieuwsuur on Wednesday night. "But if you do not like freedom, in Heaven's name pack your bag and leave." The anger was apparently directed at Charlie Hebdo attackers.

All around the world, the struggle against the State, against capitalism is a struggle against police, too. The killing of activist Rémy Fraisse in France, the kidnapping of the 43 students in Iguala (Mexico), the policial murder on Mike Brown and Eric Garner in USA, the arrest and torture against Nikos Romanos and another greek anarchists, the preventive attacks against the solidarity protest in London (Westfield shopping centre), and recent the prosecution/arrest of anarchists in Spain shows it. Since the beginning of November, there are social protests and riots in at least 21 countries, following the rebellion in North America.

Obs: we thanks a possible translation to Celtic/Irish/Gaeilge idiom for better diffusion for our brothers in Ireland/North Ireland. read full story / add a comment

Republican Network for Unity shine a light on the revolving door policy of the PSNI regarding ex-RUC officers.

15 years ago the Patten Report consigned the RUC to history and ushered in a new accountable police force, or so we were led to believe. Instead, the people of the 6 counties received an MI5 controlled militia with a revolving door for ex-RUC gunmen.

Today (16th September) Drew Harris was appointed as deputy chief constable of the PSNI. Just like his senior George Hamilton, who was appointed chief constable earlier this year, Drew is an ex-RUC officer who was involved in a force that thoughtlessly used shoot-to-kill and oversaw collusion at the highest level read full story / add a comment

Benjamin Netanyahu ‘s own words: “Terrorism is the deliberate assault on civilians to inspire fear for political ends. Though one might quibble with this definition, for example by broadening ‘political ends’ to include ideological or religious motives, it nonetheless captures the essence of terrorism—the purposeful attack on the innocent, those who are hors de combat, outside the field of legitimate conflict. In fact, the more removed the target of the attack from any connection to the grievance enunciated by the terrorists, the greater the terror.” From “Fighting Terrorism: How Democracies Can Defeat the International Terrorist Network, 2001 Edition Chapter 1, page 8.” read full story / add a comment

Ireland and the wider world have gone through severe social and financial crisis over the last number of years, and many of us feel exasperated by attempts to communicate with our elected officials.

We send emails to TDs and sign our names to petitions, and yet we are left feeling that our messages go nowhere, just fall on deaf ears. We don’t feel heard, we don’t feel represented, and we don’t feel like we’re being given answers.

This compels us to wonder how do we use our voice? How do we communicate? Does dialogue even work anyway? read full story / add a comment
