Judge Seamus Hughes had a total of six penalty points wiped from his driver’s licence on three separate occasions between 2011 and 2012, Phoenix Magazine claims.<br />
<br />
The Wesport native, who is also a former Fianna Fail TD, clocked up the first offence on March 28 2011, shortly after taking over from retired judge, John Neilan in District Number Nine.</P><P>On that occasion, he was recorded in his Audi doing 74km/h in a 50km/h zone at Knocknaphunta, Castlebar, Co Mayo.<br />

Two penalty points were later quashed from his record on the grounds that the incident was an “emergency.”<br />
<br />
Later that same year, Judge Hughes was again stopped, this time at Tulsk, Co Roscommon, travelling at 72km/h in a 50km/h zone on November 7.<br />
<br />
It is believed those two points were erased by gardaí on “humanitarian grounds.”<br />
<br />
The third and final incident was recorded last September when he was observed doing 69km/h along a stretch of road with 50km/h speed limit attached.<br />
<br />
“Humanitarian grounds” were likewise cited by gardai for the removal of two penalty points stemming from the aformentioned incident at Bellanagare, Co Roscommon.<br />
