Withdrawal

category international | health / disability issues | opinion/analysis author Tuesday January 24, 2023 20:19author by Sean Crudden - IMPERO (Irish Mental Patients' Educational and Representative Organisation) Report this post to the editors

"The last state of that man was worse than the first"

Not enough is known about the withdrawal effects of neuroleptics

Apart from many side effects of neuroleptics there is a severe problem when one withdraws from neuroleptic medication. The original symptoms return in abundance.

Although the medical and legal authorities are reticent and less than candid about it, I suspect that this effect is in the background of many suicides, murder/suicides, mass shootings.

Naturally, I have no wish to see mental patients subjected to a Draconian regime backed up by law. This is putting the blame in the wrong place.

The drug companies need to try to discover newer and less damaging drugs. Failing that maybe a return to non-medical interventions where mental illness is involved.
