J15-Catalan police used agent provocateurs in attempt to destroy M15 peaceful revolutionary movement

category international | anti-capitalism | news report author Thursday June 16, 2011 09:02author by #SpanishRevolution Report this post to the editors

The M15 peaceful revolutionary movement in Spain has had profound success and has grown and still is growing. It has inspired similar things to happen in further afield, as Bob Dylan sang "The times they are a changin".

Yesterday we saw on the streets of Barcelona, the second sinsister move by the Catalan state / region, the first being the well publicised extreme violent action by the Mossos (Catalan police) on M27. What we saw was the open use of "agents provocateurs" in an attempt to split the movement, discredit the movement, give fuel to those (politicians, media...) who wish to see this #SpanishRevolution come to a quick end.

Well they have failed, their agents were caught on camera, watch the video, all is VERY VERY clear - Who are they real violent ones in this situation. M15 movement remains peaceful. We are winning.

Catalan police use agents provocateurs in attempt to trigger riot
http://www.thebadrash.com/2011/06/16/catalan-police-use...riot/

Numerous pieces of evidence have surfaced that seem to prove that the Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalonia's autonomous police force, used agents provocateurs during yesterday's #15M movement protests outside the Catalan parliament. The protestors had gathered in the parc de la Ciutadella in Barcelona in an attempt to prevent MPs from accessing the parliament, where they were scheduled to vote in a raft of austerity measures and tax cuts.

The most complete video on YouTube (below) shows 'protestors' attempting to stir things up, then donning balaclava-style masks, before being escorted by police to safety, after they had been identified as troublemakers by other protestors. Equipped with hands-free devices, which might have been mobile phones or radios, the infiltrators seemed to be well organised.

This is, of course, an old tactic. Since time immemorial, police agents have attempted to trigger violence in otherwise peaceful protest movements in order to weaken popular support. With support from politicians and the media, it seems like the police have achieved their aim. The media, of course, is basically not reporting this news. The #15M movement insists that it does not support violent protest... indeed, in its Twitter feed yesterday, it pleaded with protestors to remain peaceful. A later protest at plaça Sant Jaume (seat of the Catalan government) proceeded entirely peacefully, which lends further credence to the protestors' claims. Meanwhile, the budget was approved without amendments, with some Catalan MPs forced to fly into the parliament with police and fire-rescue helicopters.

Check out this story: http://bit.ly/lJOBvK @pNibbler re: reports of #agentprovocateurs at #spanishrevolution #greekrevolution protests

It links to article "Debate rages over violence at Spanish protests" , which contains the following:

This video, posted yesterday, was viewed over 200,000 times within a few hours. It documents a protest in La Ciutadella, Barcelona on a day that saw dozens injured in clashes near the Catalan parliament. There is a scuffle and police fire baton rounds at the crowd. A voice says “That’s them!” and the camera focuses on a group in a doorway, away from the body of the protest. Eventually, they are led away by police, who appear to shield them from protesters. It is unclear what part this small group played in yesterday’s demonstration, which took place as parliament discussed harsh austerity measures. Those who uploaded the video claim the group were involved in provoking the violence based, they say, on eyewitness testimony. Based on the video evidence, however, it is equally possible that they are simply plainclothes policemen. In fact, the evidence is entirely inconclusive. Whatever the case is, the video has sparked a debate about ‘Who are the violent ones’?

Last night we found ourself hours after on the way to dunk's house passing past the whole crew of plainsclothes "riot" squad as they stood useless (without batteries or instruction) chewing gum or smoking cigs on the pavement next to their Kevlar® buddies in the riot vans. I found myself singing yeah though ye work through the valley of darkness... & then we mused that it probably had been a good idea to leave one poster that had been carried along which illustrated the provocateurs from the other day which we then realised were only part of the whole crew . Oh you can just feel them fantasizing about their dark martial arts. Throw the 23rd psalm at them. That's my tip. Remember you're awesome you're mass.

There was reportedly only one incident yesterday. Oddly enough I was close by and texted Dunk about it "pacifist dispersal" for this was at a stage when I at the reading of the declarations had utterly underestimated the turn-out. I was with a Catalan middle aged artist with his kid he's neighbour from my actual house. We saw short and shallow wave of nerves and concern was felt as some youngsters seemed to be about to stray in to the rough places, wee young clowns (the jolly pretty generation we have) strated fluttering about the place & seamlessly and immediately -
The elderly; mature, experienced, on site, middle-aged calmed everything down.
The riot cop-vans moved & the clowns saw their magic exorcise the crew of plainclothes darkness.
Oh yes. for verily there are
Pacifists Infiltrated in the Dissidence

Last few days it looked like wednesday trick with these Agent provoceteurs had truly served its purpose: TO MAKE THE 15-M MOVEMENT APPEAR A VIOLENT ONE. We worried that many here in Catalunya had changed their mind about the Indignados, BUT, after yesterdays immense show of people on the streets (somewhere between 100,000 and a quarter million people - 4 and a half hours of slowly walking in the streets) it looks like the people will not be fooled, they have learned of these dirty tricks campaigns run by state / police / media. In fact, yesterday, thanks to the video above, "that video" (in all its many copied versions) there were and still are A4 black and white pages of the INFILTRADOS (police infiltrators) up all over the city. Infact, due to them, or Indignant intelligence, 2 were spotted and clowns escorted them out of the demo, of course they regroupped with their buddies later, but now their faces are known and that the indignants are unafraid, well their job is going to get all that harder.

brief report about those goings on:

- Miles de 'indignados' finalizan la marcha con la lectura de un manifiesto en Pla de Palau
http://www.lavanguardia.com/politica/20110619/541739352....html

Although the manifestation of the # 19-J has developed smoothly and within the framework of a festive nature, a small group of dissidents has led past the 18.15 afternoon moments of tension when two officers allegedly discovered the Catalan police dressed in 'civilian' in the march. Young people, some dressed in clown wigs, have started to rebuke the alleged agents, when organizers of the march have been reduced to shouting No violence dissidents and accompanied the two men to another area before the whistle a crowd of attendees.

From initial report from yesterdays AMAZING day of action in Spain, especially in Barcelona:

100.000+ INDIGNADOS take to the streets of Barcelona, many many more around Spain and planet

Oh.... I haven't mentioned the guide dog before, have I? Annabelle is a labrador working canine who sees for the first ability challenged deputy to be elected to a regional parliament in the Spanish state. Whoever grabbed her off the CiU deputy really didn't do any favours. As I've said loads now - there have been only 6 arrests. The movement continues. There are obviously "angry", "indignant" and "uniformed" people and they can sometimes be difficult to distinguish. There was a riot. There was an astounding showdown in true "V=Vendetta" style complete with blackblock along the 4km perimeter of the park. Yep - there were provocateurs. Yep there didn't really need to be provocateurs either - if you saw the entrances to Leinster House or Government buildings or the Phoenix park barricaded as they were the other day & all the wheely bins lined up for a torching - then you'd think the multitude were marching up that hill.

but as I labour to explain - they were & still are : NEITHER UP NOR DOWN

Tomorrow is June 19th. The CNI (Spanish intelligence service) has alerted of a possible quasi terrorist assault on the Spanish state congress in Madrid.

fancy that........................¿would that be more up or a wee bit downish?

Guardian Journalist Paul Lewis has tweeted the following:

Are police agent provocatuers being used to stoke the flames at Spanish protests? bit.ly/jEuriX

TWEET found at http://tinyurl.com/6f4splr (original http://twitter.com/#!/PaulLewis/status/81716465836883968 )

Paul Lewis is Special Projects Editor for the Guardian. He was named Reporter of the Year at the British Press Awards 2010 and won the 2009 Bevins Prize for outstanding investigative journalism. He previously worked at the Washington Post as the Stern Fellow: http://www.guardian.co.uk/profile/paullewis

What is important here is that Paul Lewis has been the main person, along with Rob Evans, who has been covering, and indeed uncovering much of the dirty, seedy, illegal goings in the british police services. In recent months there have been shocking revelations of a series of embedded undercover police in the UK and Euro environmental activist world, most notably the agent Mark Kennedy, or Mark Stone, or "Flash", who even appeared up in Rossport. Hopefully the Guardian and Paul Lewis will also investigate the murky goings on in Spain at the moment, and with that the wider world willl see what a devious ploy has been used in these last 2 days in Catalunya to discredit the PEACEFUL M-15 movement of the INDIGNADOS.

In this video you can see how the guy wearing a red T-shirt is also a policeman who tries to convince people to react violently.

Watch the minute 3.30, when the guy without T-shirt loses his hat and policemen grab it to pass it to other cops so they can give it back to the guy, who by the way, is provoking them and they don't react against him, only him. Weird, isn't it?

The Catalan interior ministry would have no hassle telling youtube to pull any video which helped identify plod be plod in usual uniform, Kevlar® bloodlust berserk kit or as this bunch of chaps were - plain clothes . Oh yes. & they were almost all chaps weren't they? Just one chapette amongst them. Now I don't want to labour a point here - but should the Catalan interior ministry get above its rank & station in a sort of rightwing Catalan nationalist way & go ferreting across the internet - then whoever put that video up is guilty of a crime..............&..................whoever watched it could find themselves filed away under the big bad a-n-t-i-t-e-r-r-o-r-i-s-m legislation, for which the Spanish state is still acknowledged to be a leader in sport & no doubt draws upon a tradition which goes back to the Spanish inquisition ((( "you never expect the Spanish inquisition" )))

3 of the individuals in the vid were of course pictured in an illustration to a comment I left the night of the angry people outside the cordon of uniformed people which was around the indignant people .

now you know what the people look like who do the vice, drugs & surveillance stuff. Do you find their faces and clothes distinctive or anonymous? Forgive me - I grew up in Ireland in the times of Garda special branch who always wore tweed sports jackets and moustaches and removed the model and make plates off their cars. Of course back then Ireland was awash with moustaches and tweed sports jackets so you'd never seem them coming.

I think we're getting distracted by all this & in truth it is not important to the progress of the movement & at worst will strategically impede future street based engagement where you know "indignant" people might get mixed up with "angry" people

6 people were arrested yesterday. Yep. Half a dozen. At that rate the grand old duke of york could go up and down that fecking hill every 15th, 16th, 26th and 19th of the month for the full term of a rightwing government and still have 9000 people neither up nor down.

Mr Interior minister Felip Puig (the beloved) confirmed the presence of plainsclothes plod (they're always there) but denies they were provocateuring pointing out that in the video (which he obtusely dismisses as fake) you don't actually see plainclothes plod hitting anyone....well if it's fake you wouldn't need to point that out, would you? Anyway he's thinking about bringing charges of libel against 66 year old Arcadi Oliveras the president of the "Justice and Peace" and generally much respected intellectual old bod - for seemingly starting the whole provocateur thing in an interview given to various radio & telly stations yesterday.

& the whole political class are out with their opinions today. Oh! what a range of things they have to say. Catalan President Artur Mas has got a whole page of the local rag titled "From Indignant to Indignity" (that's snappy, no?) whilst ex-president Gonzales of Spain has expressed his disappointment that the movement has and is "going nowhere" and anyway as far as he can see "direct democracy" would be like what California has - and California is "ungovernable" as far as he is concerned. I suppose it would be the 6th largest economy in the world if it was an independent state - but it does have difficulty deciding whether or not to legalise marijuana and gay marriage in its referenda. Yep. ungovernable.

Anyway. The half dozen people arrested face 5 years in prison under articles 494 and 498 which make it wantonly naughty to hit, assualt or threaten an elected representative. Coz they're special and not like ordinary people.
