Asgard Centenary Celebrations, Howth.

Weekend of July 26th & 27th we'll be hosting an exhibition and lectures into Asgard Gunrunning & the Bachelors Walk Massacre which happened on the same day, 26th of July 1914.

An exhibition of artefacts from the Asgard gunrunning of 1914 will take place in the Old Court House, Harbour Rd. Howth on Sat 26th & Sun 27th of July. This exhibition will also include artefacts form the Revolution of 1916 & the War of Independence. Talks given daily by local historians & prominent speakers, entrance is free of charge & will run from 10am to 8pm.

Independent Commemoration Sat 26th @ 5pm:

A wreath laying ceremony will take place on the Est. Pier at 5pm, with main oration from Tommy McKearney.

Lecture & Ballad Session:

On Saturday 26th of July we're hosting a talk on the Asgard Gunrunning and the Bachelors Walk Massacre by Kevin Morley author of "A Descriptive History of the Irish Citizen Army". This will be followed by a ballad session from local musicians with headline act from Érin go Bragh. Venue: The Abbey Tavern, Abbey St. Howth. Doors from 8pm. Táille €5.

Both events were held today, as advertised, and fitting tributes were paid by Na Fianna Éireann to those who 'done their bit' in Howth (and Kilcoole in Wicklow) on 26th July 1914 and to those who were targeted by British troops on Bachelors Walk on that same day . A full report on both events will be published in the August 2014 issue of the 'Saoirse' monthly newspaper (which goes to print on Wednesday 6th of that month) and some pics from today can be viewed on the 'Related Link' , below.
