Hi!
The CABHAIR Christmas Day Swim will be 40-years-young on the 25th December 2016 !

It began - properly structured and organised - in 1976 ,as a ‘fundraiser with a difference’ , combined with the need to gain extra publicity for a situation which was then - as now - making world headlines. Those that sat down together in early September 1976 to tighten-up the then ‘hit-and-miss’ affair were a dedicated team who fully understood that to fail in their business would not only bring derision on them and the issue they sought to highlight , but would give their enemy a publicity coup which they would be keen to exploit. With that in mind , the team persevered - favours were called-in , guarantees were secured , provisions obtained and word dispatched to like-minded individuals in that part of Dublin. At the appointed time on the agreed day - 12 Noon , Christmas Day 1976 - a soon-to-be 40-years-young event was ‘born’...
The CABHAIR Christmas Day Swim is , thankfully , still going strong and will be , as mentioned , 40-years-young on December 25th next!

Hi!

Supporters of this event, from the Kilmainham area of Dublin, have kindly organised and donated 40th anniversary commemorative medals for those brave enough to seek sponsorship and earn it on the day - don't know if the medals are waterproof, but they're surely 'proof' of the dedication of all involved!
More re same at the 'Related Link' , below.

Thanks,
Sharon.

Commemorative medals will be presented to the Cabhair swimmers on Christmas Day next, to mark the 40th anniversary of the event.

Hi!

There has been a fantastic response to this annual event from people in the area and the so-far confirmed four (sponsored) swimmers have been dining out for the last two weeks on the strength of their up-coming derring-do to the extent, I think, that those attending will be expecting the four lads to walk on the water rather than swim in it!
The usual 'goodies' are being donated and stored and Santa has promised to visit - it's good to go, and we're all looking forward to meeting up with old friends, and making new ones.
If you're around that part of Dublin on Christmas Day, between 11am and 1pm, drop by and say hello, pull a cracker, have a mince pie and a sup of 'lemonade' - you'll be welcome!

Thanks,
Sharon.

Hi!

Done and dusted, until the 41st in '17!
We had decent enough weather - mild, overcast and windy - a fairly good crowd and six swimmers, each of whom earned their keep, with hardly any hesitation! The usual 'goodies' were available, the Irish tricolour flew proudly from the Naas Road end of the swim site, the music system blared out some good stuff and we were surveilled electronically more so than physically.
The organisers can be proud of the work they put in and the six lads were proud to receive their '40th Swim Anniversary' medals : all-in-all, a job very well done!

A few words and pics can be seen at the 'Related Link' , below.
Thanks!

Sharon.
