Review of new collection by Irish writer Faolcu O'Gealach

Poetry Ireland reclaimed from the hands of the ivory tower dwellers and Arts Council acolytes!!!!!!

Wide eyed and blind... is a first collection from O'Gealach and investigates not only the traditional war, aging and childhood themes but also less explored topics such as penile inferiority complex, the tragic case of Gerrit Isenborger and seeks to raise awareness of the plight of some of Irelands long term prisoners notably Malcolm McArthur.

The work is written in a modern minimalist staccato style. The writer uses the resonance of the words to add to the feeling of the pieces, one almost feels that this work could only be properly appreciated by hearing it read.

The collection is worth reading at least, and shows that Irish poetry or indeed poetry Ireland is not confined to the elitist bullshit of the over inflated egos of the Dublin Arts scene. Bravo Faolcu!
