An even quieter week: still no decision on a quarry

Residents of Mullagh and Mulhussey, near Dunboyne, Co. Meath are still waiting for a decision on their appeal submitted a year ago to An Bord Pleanala against planning permission for a concrete quarry. In November 2007 Meath County Council granted Kilsaran Concrete Ltd permission for a 26 hectare limestone rock quarry which faced major local opposition, with residents concerned over dust, noise, traffic and the safety of school children, as the proposed quarry site is less than 200 metres from Mulhussey School. Ciaran Murphy, chairperson of the Mullagh and Mulhussey Residents’ Group, said, while residents were frustrated with the delay, ‘We are hoping that no news is good news. As it is going on, demand for stone is less and less and we expect a ‘no’ decision’. (Meath Chronicle 27/12/08, p.11)
