press release
Tuesday June 15, 2010 20:03 by Fintan Lane - IPSC
The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) welcomes today's expulsion of an Israeli diplomat by the Irish government and commends Minister Michael Martin for the move, but believes that the ambassador should also be expelled. According to IPSC spokesperson, Dr Fintan Lane, "This is a long overdue but very welcome development. We commend the minister for taking action in relation to the misuse of forged Irish passports by Israeli assassins in Dubai. We now hope that he takes similar action with regard to the recent kidnapping of Irish citizens by Israeli commandos in international waters and the massacre of humanitarian activists on the Freedom Flotilla. The IPSC believes that Israel should be isolated by the international community. Meaningful sanctions should be enforced until they lift the siege of Gaza and concede the Palestinian right to self-determination. The Israeli ambassador to Ireland should be expelled and diplomatic ties severed with this rogue state." |

Far too little, far too late. My guess is it was Evrony suggested this expulsion to Martin, throw the dog a bone and we can resume business as usual. Its as cosmetic and temporary as the proposed 'loosening of the blockade' being trumpeted by BAebi-Face Blair.
Waterford has it right. These people do not do dialogue, diplomatic or otherwise, except maybe as a diversionary tactic to gain time and let the PR wheels regain traction. Dictation is their means, dominance their end.
Tom Curran is right about the 'widespread feeling'; Irish people can still recognise penal laws when they see them. Martin still is not representing us anything like adequately.
What, sez you, is new?Saville overturns Widgery and peels off the whitewash, even as Israel initiates its 'independent' inquiry...If the vote is tied we can get Kissinger to cast a decider. Then in forty years time, when the facts have settled comfortably on the ground, the Turkish relatives might have the murdered vindicated.
If we want EU sanctions the lead should come from here. Germany, for very good reasons, has no moral authority to act unless it can demonstrate that countries with slightly better records are making demands. And Obama seems to be letting Clinton run her department for the Big Shekel brigade, who do not actually represent the general US Jewish voter on the issues. Evrony's exit would be a small beginning. The current expulsion is a sop.
