In these times of great tribulation for the Church, this conference promises to provide the perspective needed to renew the faith of believers, challenge the mindset of non-believers and turn despair into joyful hope. It will be a weekend of reflection providing what many have called a “life-changing” experience of the Nonviolent Jesus of the Gospels. It addresses our struggles to transform our lives and our world by living Christ’s example and message of universal love and kindness in all our relationships. It shows us how we can effect peace in our families, communities, workplace, political structures and the world by confronting with love those forces within that undermine the innate capacity for care and compassion with which we are all imbued. read full story / add a comment

A large number of people turned out at 2pm on Saturday, 17 April, for the Palestinian Prisoners’ Day demonstration outside the Israeli embassy in Dublin. The protest was organised conjointly by the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) and éirígí (the socialist republican party formed in 2006), and the focus was on a call for the release of ALL Palestinian political prisoners imprisoned by the Israeli State - those 'convicted' in Israeli Military courts and those interned without trial under the 'Administrative Detention' regime. read full story / add a comment

On Thursday 25th March 2010 at Belmullet District Court, charges against 9 Shell to Sea protesters were withdrawn or dismissed by Judge Gerard Haughton, because the '9' had been unlawfully detained following their arrest and they were not brought to court 'as soon as practicable', amounting to a 'conscious and deliberate violation of their constitutional rights'. In the 'test' case of Mr Eoin Lawless, potentially effecting all of the 9, the court ruled that the accused was/were held for an unreasonable amount of time before being charged, they were denied 'station bail' and were unreasonably delayed before being brought to court to allow them to apply for release on bail. Barrister Leo Mulrooney, acting for the 9, had put it to Garda Superintendent Michael Larkin that he had failed in his duty to vindicate the rights of the prisoners, and when asked to account to the court for his inaction, Judge Gerard Haughton expressed dissatisfaction with Supt. Larkin's explanation. read full story / add a comment
