Award winning short film for screening in Monasterevan.

An award winning short film is programmed as part of a Local Filmmakers Showcase in Monasterevan later in the month. The screening, featuring filmmakers from Kildare, Laois and Offaly is one of the events in The Venice of Ireland Festival and it will take place in the Day Care Centre ( near the boy’s Primary school), Monasterevan on Monday 18th at 9.00 pm and admission is free.

The SAndeman, directed by Carla Mooney, was recently screened in The New Irish Shorts 6 programme at The Galway Film Fleadh. Its screening there was guaranteed arising from its success at The Offaly Film Festival in Birr last November. Carla, from Treascon (between Monasterevan and Portarlington) has just returned from Iran, having done preparatory work on her new documentary. She will be in attendance to introduce and lead a discussion post-screening in Monasterevan. The programme opens with Return to Roscoff, directed by Ken Wardrop, from Portarlington, whose documentary HISANDHERS is the best Irish selling documentary of all time.

The screenings start with a programme of Irish language shorts (sub-titled) Taispeántas Gearrscannáin 2011 at 7.00 pm, to be followed by The Local Filmmakers Showcase at 9.00 pm. Admission is free agus beidh fáilte roimh Gaeilge ar an óiche.

Full bi-lingual details of the films are available at www.ionad.org.
