Description
Newbridge: Film Screening - ‘Occupation 101′ followed by Q&A with Fintan Lane of Irish Ship To Gaza
Wednesday, 30 November @ 7pm
Crooked House Theatre, 1 Main Street, Newbridge, Co. Kildare
The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign is to host a screening of the award winning documentary Occupation 101, a film about the current and historical root causes of the conflict in Palestine and Israel. The screening will take place on Wednesday 30th November at 7pm in the Crooked House Theatre in Newbridge.
Following the film, there will be a questions and answers session featuring Dr. Fintan Lane, historian and coordinator of the Irish Ship To Gaza campaign who was on board the MV Saoirse, when it was violently intercepted by Israeli military forces in international waters while reach Gaza earlier this month. Dr. Lane subsequently spent a week in prison in Israel.
The thought-provoking and powerful film presents a comprehensive analysis of the facts and hidden truths surrounding the never ending controversy and dispels many of its long-perceived myths and misconceptions.
The film, which has won numerous awards and been praised as “a visual revolution”, also details daily Palestinian life under Israeli military rule and the major obstacles that stand in the way of a lasting and viable peace. The roots of the conflict are explained through first-hand on-the-ground experiences from leading Middle East scholars, peace activists, journalists, religious leaders and humanitarian workers. A wide range of topics are covered, including the first wave of Jewish immigration to Palestine from Europe in the 1880s, the 1948 and 1967 wars, the first and second intifadas, the Oslo Peace Process, the expansion of Israeli settlement in the occupied territories, the role of the US, the separation barrier and the Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, as well as many testimonials from victims of this tragedy.
