Dublin City University and AIB Team Up To Help Launch Twelve New Irish Internet Start-Ups Creating 24 Jobs Each business day, a team of staff and students from Dublin City University will help launch a new Internet start-up from the 1st to 20th of December with support from AIB. The “12 Business Days of Christmas” initiative developed by Dublin City University’s Leadership, Innovation and Knowledge Research Centre (LINK) will be helping to kick-start brand awareness of 12 new Internet companies from a range of industries including mobile application design, e-commerce, and web TV. Together these companies will employ over 24 people in 2012. A new business will launch on each business day (excluding December 6th and 7th due to the announcement of the Budget) from 1st December to 20th December. Each day will focus on driving and building awareness for that one business through traditional and social media. The initiative is supported by AIB.
The LINK Research Centre is an applied research centre that works closely with entrepreneurs, start-ups and established businesses. Businesses and individuals are supported and mentored to help develop their ideas into fully viable business start-ups and grow these companies once established. Dr. Theo Lynn, Director of Industry Engagement at DCU Business School, said “DCU is Ireland’s University of Enterprise. We believe small business is big business and SME’s will play a crucial role in Ireland’s future economic growth.” Dr. Lynn added, “Universities, whether through research, education or engagement, should and can play a much more tangible role in helping entrepreneurs and start-ups develop and grow their businesses. We are delighted at the support we have received throughout DCU including staff, DCU Student’s Union, the Media Production Society and our local bank, AIB.” Lucia O'Riordan, AIB Bank said: “Small businesses play a critical role in the Irish economy and are an essential ingredient for national recovery. We recognise and understand that there is a need for us to do much more. Supporting events like the ‘12 Business Days of Christmas’ here in DCU is a good opportunity for AIB to increase its involvement. It also provides a way for local enterprises to network, grow and develop their business.” |

Hi folks . Just to answer some of the more cynical responses to this article, I’d like readers to know that AIB and DCU have teamed up to produce an appropriate carol to accompany this festive week .Some participants in the ten day AIB/ DCU extravaganza have already learnt the new song by heart and are preparing to sing it in a choral event to be held at DCU towards the end of semester . The date of the AIB/DCU charity gig hasn’t yet been finalized yet, but any indymedia ireland reader -and you don't have to be an AIB customer - who is interested in joining can give us a call at the above number or email us .
"The Twelve Days of Christmas" is a cumalative song, meaning that each verse is built on top of the previous verses. There are twelve verses, each describing a gift given by AIB on one of the twelve days of Christmas . The song is of course based on the old Christmas Carol . Here to give the flavour of the new song are its first two verses
On the first day of Christmas AIB gave to me Smart Touch media for free
On the second day of Christmas AIB gave to me a CompareBookPass etc etc
The AIB is one of the main players in the wrecking of the social fabric of this country, not to mention their wrecking of many a small business. When I think of banks, I feel like puking. When I see bank reps driving around in 11 reg', top of the range gas gusslers and I feel like, and in fact have done, asking them why they aren't riding on bikes. They are parasites!!!
"AIB Bank said: “Small businesses play a critical role in the Irish economy and are an essential ingredient for national recovery. So why aren't you giving viable small businesses any fucking loans then? This faffing about and window dressing is all very well but Loads of businesses have gone to the wall over cashflow issues that a simple bank loan would have solved. But no, you greedy fuckers are just shoring up your balance sheets while our economy spirals into destruction.
Irish banks really don't give a fuck about small business.
