(Fiscal Compact Treaty & Irish referendum) After they had agreed the final wording of the intergovernmental agreement—the "Treaty on Stability, Coordination and Governance in the Economic and Monetary Union"—the member-states of the euro area pronounced that the treaty “represents a major step towards closer and irrevocable fiscal and economic integration and stronger governance in the euro area,” which they claimed “will significantly bolster the outlook for fiscal sustainability and euro area sovereign debt and enhance growth.” The Government seems determined to push ahead in the next few months with the ratification of this treaty and its partner, the revised Treaty on the European Stability Mechanism (ESM). |

Jump To Comment: 1 2When I was in the Occupy camp in Dame street. I heard an very moving speech from one of your organisations representatives. It dealt powerfully with the loss of Ireland's hard won political and economic freedom to the undemocratic EU. I am looking forward to the peoples movement leading a sucessful campaign for Ireland to leave the Euro and hopefully also to eventually win back this countries freedom from the EU. No Irish political party has the courage to stand up to the EU or the media on these vital issues and it is great to see the peoples movement do so and I hope you continue show up these parties and rock the cozy political boat.
In the meantime, and for anybody interested, there is a copy of the Fiscal Treaty at:
http://european-council.europa.eu/media/639235/st00tscg...2.pdf
I assume the version at the above address is the one Prime Minister Kenny TD signed a few days ago?
Although I've only just had a very quick glance through the text of this Treaty, it appears (as I expected) to be nothing more than a time-wasting distraction from dealing with the REAL problem: which is to take control of the global-money supply out of the hands of the tiny group of despots who are at present controlling it: and to instead put it back into the hands of the peoples of sovereign nation states of the world, which is where it rightly resides in genuine democratic systems, of the "government of the people, by the people, for the people" kind.
If humanity does not learn how to control its despots, then the despots will not only continue to control the world, but they will very likely destroy it: because that's what despots tend to do. Their greed for power, wealth, and influence appears to have no bounds, and -- by themselves -- they don't seem to know when or how to stop their excesses.
Provided sufficiently large numbers of our people vote NO on Referendum Day, it seems to me that this occasion will provide the people of the Republic of Ireland with an excellent opportunity to put all the money-mad, power-mad, red-rotten-with-corruption megalomaniacs (and control-freaks) back into their proper place: which hopefully all the peoples of all the other sovereign nation states of the world might later copy.
