Séan Heuston 1916 society Dublin June statement

category national | rights, freedoms and repression | press release author Thursday June 27, 2013 14:56author by Séan Heuston 1916 society Dublin - Séan Heuston 1916 society Dublinauthor email Dublin1916society at gmail dot com Report this post to the editors

Séan Heuston 1916 society Dublin June statement

It has been nearly two months since the establishment of the Dublin branch of the 1916 societies. And it was with a great sense of admiration we decided to name Dublins first society after executed 1916 rising leader Séan Hueston. We in the society aspire to follow the legacy of our fallen patron, and reinstill core republican values and principles back into the hearts and minds of working class communities across the city and county, values that are solely needed in these harsh times to rejuvenate the downtrodden Irish people into fighting for their absolute and complete national and economic sovereignty.
It is through education in the lessons of republican history, commemoration of our republican fallen and promotion of the ideals of our republican dead that we intend to reinvigorate the spirit of resistance in the Irish people. Our membership drawn mainly from working class backgrounds are committed to bringing such ideals to our communities in the hope that they empower them to challenge the status quo, which has demoralised and laid waste to once proud and unified neighbourhoods.

State sponsored revisionisim, the gross air brushing of Irish history has become unpalatable, it is not uncommon in Dublin today to walk down the street and be scorned for proudly displaying an Easter Lily, a symbolic display of remembrance of the 1916 risigng, yet be congradulated for wearing a Poppy, the symbol associated with the British empire and crown forces, the same crown forces which continue to occupy six Irish counties.
This is a prime example of how far the 'normalisation' agenda has evolved, a notion propagated from all angles of the establishment, that the national question has been answered, the notion that British rule is here to stay and that the centuries old desire to resist occupation is no more.
Those who supposedly represent the interests of republicans while fully embracing the constitutional institutions of partition both sides of the British imposed have proven to be rudderless in their half hearted proposal being promoted as a means to ending British rule, a 'border poll', a sectarian headcount conducted within the occupied six counties that even if it results in favour of ending partition can be overturned by the British appointed secetary of state who has the power to veto and rule against people's wishes, proving such a proposal is a fallacy.
Our societies alternative is simple. One Ireland, One vote, which allow all citizens of this island a referendum to democratically vote on the issue of Irish Unity and for the outcome to be respected and followed through, a stepping stone toward the Socialist Republic proclaimed in 1916.

Over the next next two months the society will be carrying out a fundraising efforts to aid us in forwarding our goals.
It will begin on Sunday the 30th, with our society will be undertaking a symbolic sponsored walk beginning from the resting place of many of our patriot dead Glasnevin Cemmetay proceeding to Arbour Hill Easter Rsising memorial, where a small speech on the life of Séan Hueston and the legacy of the rising will be read out followed by a wreath laying.

On July 12th, we will be holding a public lecture in the Abbey Hotel on Middle Abbey Street, the speakers include veteran republican, former republican POW/hunger striker and political commentator Tommy McKearney on the Easter Rising of 1916 and prominant republican and historian Margaret O'Neill on the women of the 1913 lockout.
The lecture begins at 7.30 and is open to the public at no charge.

The lecture will be proceeded by the Séan Heuston 1916 society Dublin launch night, also in the Abbey Hotel, where entertainment will be provided by leading rebel band Erin Go Bragh supported by Portadown Republican Flute Band Pride of Eireann, tickets for entry are a mere 5 euro, with a raffle taking place on the night with POW craft up for grabs.

On the 10th of August, the society will be hosting a Celtic V Liverpool pre game party while both teams play that night in Dublin, again music will be provided by Erin Go Bragh with Pride of Eireann RFB supporting, tickets only 5 euro with craft again up for grabs on the night.

All are welcome to all events, money can be paid at door for launch night and pre match party but tickets are available and we advise you purchase them to facilitate entry to avoid disappointment. This can be done be contacting us on our Séan Heuston 1916 society Dublin Facebook page or by email at Dublin1916society@gmail.com.

We hope you support us in our endeavours.
