Simplistic linear thinking by Rachel from Accounts and the Treasury spawned this Budget from hell, says David Craig. A systems thinker would have known it would send the economy into a doom loop of recession and decline.

P 3 of this issue of Peoples News. Tell them they are not wanted here. No to austerity! – No to militarisation!

The Peoples Movement will be holding two protests at the above event on the twin themes of EU austerity and EU militarisation. The political congress, which will be attended by Merkel, Barroso, van Rompuy etc. is to select a candidate for the position of President of the EU Commission. Over 2,000 delegates are expected to attend.

Friday 7th March The first protest will commence at 9:00 and end at 10:00. We will assemble at the Custom House at 8:45. During this period, delegates will be arriving for the plenary session that will select a candidate.

Friday 7th March The second protest will commence at 13:00 and end at 2:00. We will assemble at 12:45 at the Custom House. During this period, the result of the election will be announced; there will be a press conference etc.

It is important that the international media do not think that all Irish people relish EU austerity or that we are not aware of the rush to militarise the EU. So please try to support one or both of these protests.

P 4 of this issue of Peoples News.. 100 and still going strong!
Friday evening on the 7th March at 6:00 the Peoples Movement will have a get-together at 6:00 upstairs in the Palace Bar in Fleet St (Westmoreland St end of Temple Bar) to mark the 100th edition of the Peoples News. There will be hard copies available and some CDs with the complete run!

Little did we think when we first published People’s News in June 2004 that it would reach a hundred issues and still be going strong!

So, to celebrate the hundredth issue, why not drop in to the Palace Bar in Fleet Street, Dublin (near the corner of Westmoreland Street), on Friday 7th March for a pint or coffee and a chat.

It’s a chance to make new acquaintances and to renew old ones. We’ll be upstairs from 6 p. m
