'By the Pricking of My Thumbs, Something Wicked this Way Comes' : Details of Various Protests

category national | anti-war / imperialism | feature author Tuesday June 22, 2004 17:00author by Indymedia Ireland Editorial Group - Indymedia Ireland Report this post to the editors

'All the perfumes of Arabia will not sweeten this little hand.' sez Wag

From The Newswire: All Systems go for Protest as POTUS Touches Down in Shannon?

The demonstration will assemble at 7pm in Shannon Town Centre. Protestors will then march to the terminal building at Shannon Airport. On the possibility of the protestors being prevented from entering Shannon, Anti-War Ireland says: “For the guards to prevent a peaceful protest from going ahead would amount to a serious breach of our civil liberties, and would be unacceptable. It would also be ironic, given that Bush expects to be applauded by our government for supposedly restoring democracy and civil liberties to the people of Iraq at the very moment ours are being threatened. At this point in time, we have no reason to believe that the protest will be banned. Anti-War Ireland has written to An Garda Síochana to give notice of a peaceful demonstration, and to indicate the march route. The gardaí have not been in touch with us, so we can only assume that it’s all systems go.” Invitational video: AVI WMV

Black Blanket is to communicate how we feel about the needless ongoing conflict in iraq and elsewhere under the bush regime.

• Non violent direct action
• Visual impact protest

Proposal => on Saturday the 26th june 2004 Shannon

Visual, non confrontational, highly symbolic + silent yet specific + communicative.
Walk with protest until we are stopped + then lie down.

I propose to get as many people as possible to lie down en masse with black blankets over them (some will be provided, bring your own or a black bag) to communicate how we feel about the needless ongoing conflict in iraq and elsewhere under bush regime
more info contact me: etaoinholahan@hotmail.com make the world a better place through visual action and impact this action will be recorded in film and print and will be shown in exhibition nationally + internationally

youve stated shannon, i thought you were doing it @ dromolond or as close as- that makes more sense- as there are people coming from the east to meet you to join somewhere to do it

also
a call out to friends in other countries has been made for "solidarity actions" whereby when we are doing it, they will be doing it in their towns and countries-

todays times has listed the bush demo line up
think they simply had a quick gawk at indymedia and transcribed our feature
anyway- they have stated that bushwalk is leaving at dawn on fri- this was changed to walking on friday, due to not enough time to walk- perhaps we might still walk on the sat morning- leave @3am? clarify that soon

bushwalk link
http://www.indymedia.ie/newswire.php?story_id=65275

theres also the "scottish play" (macbeth) crew who will be around and might hopefully participate-
the more that do the -black blanket- the better, hopefully all groups will participate

still wondering how many people will turn up.
i know a lot of my "normal mates" will be turning up, sounds like a lot of shannon people will also just because they are so pissed off with on their life due to bush visit-
have heard of people ripping up their permits.

anyway

I just want to say thank you to all of you who protested during the Resident's visit to your country. I cannot adequately express how heartening it is in these times. Hopefully he and his cabal will be unemployed soon.

Thank you and Peace,

When you say we owe the US a debt for not being invaded, are you aware of two small facts?

1) The only people who threatened to invade Ireland in WW2 were the Allies;
2) The Russians are why Hitler was beaten. While you were losing a quarter-million soldiers in France, the Russians were busy losing twenty million in Germany.

Perhaps a few more history books and a few less Hollywood "historically accurate" films?

After enduring every torture imaginable, I am back home and looking at the discontent with America on the web.

You are lucky you are not in America. We are under seige and blocked from voting by the millions and thousands can not attend government meetings due to American Governmental Fascism.

The international Caste War appears to have begun. Many Americans honor as martyrs those who are against the regimes in power and their more abusive members, and they do not care how it is done as long as the innocent are not harmed, whether it is suicide bombers or kidnapping.

America is under seige by international billionaires at top and local millionaires locally. If a war starts in America, beware as the current Republican and Democrat regime would likely explode a nuclear device and claim it was local terrorists so they could build more prisons.
