Liked the gardaí holding hands -ring a ring a rosie- seemed to be getting into the spirit of things, and the cop that actually looked like a pig, astounding. Where do they get all the snazzy armour and stuff its really impressive, and what's the story with all the pigs and armymen and tanks, a few rolls of razor wire and a few hundred land mines would save the taxpayer a fortune. The trigger happy CIA agents in the airport could take care of any of the murderous lunatics in rainbow dress that made their way through. Great turn out wish I was there, sun shining and all.

There is huge coverage of the shannon protest in the media in Europe. It was covered in the netherlands press and all over Euronews. A portugese friend of mine also said it got widespread coverage in Portugese media. Equall outrage at their PM being appointed New EU presidents...links being made about Bertie and Prodi being puppets for the Fortress leaders. I am encouraging him to post a story on PT indymedia newswire. Congratulations to all involved and particulaly those who put the organisation into the Shannon protest. No Gods , No masters, No leaders , Just people, Resist Authority and demand nothing less than than the destruction of parliament and the beginnings democracy.

Anyways, Portugal is safe from the Azores to the Spice isles for the merrovinginvinjans.

Cool photos. Really cool photos.
Gardaí just a tip, I note in the deployment that you managed to box yourselves in. With three lines of infantry immediately infront of vans which barricade the road, you left yourselves no option to withdraw. This suggests you were willing to hold that line at all costs. Should the costs have increased beyond hand to handie combat and small projectile throwing, you had no channel free to operate water canon or escape any type of serious assault.
You aren't military. You just look that way.
One shot garda and you would mostly have been shitting yourselves falling over each other up the ditches.
still it wasn't a third world country, where the police and army deploy and shoot up protesters, you don't have direct experience of this type of thing. Oh no. "Security levels appropriate to threat"...¿?
They were not appropriate to the threat posed by the assembled protesters.
And if one of those protesters had emerged as a "serious threat" that is an armed terrorist, or evildoer, you would have fucked up the job completely and with an awful lot of blood.
This exactly how not to police boundaries.
You were just playing the bully.
need it spellt out-
one grenade launched into the centre of the column and you'd have had all your vans in flames and lots of death and panic.

And that would have allowed the "evildoers" through the cordon, quicker than you can say "last road blocked from Shannon, CAD one's only escape now is by air"... "very poor visibility" ... wow would you have seen a display of superior fire power then.

quite.
all the gardaí and all the ban gardaí
and all the pacifist protesters and all the scorpion tanks would have been vaporised quicker than you can say "Target is clear Sir over" And some would hold memories of the retreating helicopters for decades to come.
"They looked like insects". "It was over in ten minutes".

But you were sure there were no grenade launchers in the protest crowd weren't you?
Yes. You were actually quite sure that there were no EvilDoers in the crowd.
Yes.
we all sort of got the impression that there were neither Evil Doers invited or attending the Ambush, Stop, Arrest, Shout at, Think About, Scold, Message, Greet, Bush campaigns in Ireland.

Thus you were aware the crowd didn't merit the display laid on. So, the only credible explanation is you wanted to send a clear message to the World and all the folks at home, that you too, think Bush is a militarist.
You think it appropriate to greet the President of the United States of America in this way.

God Help us all, when so many people love dressing up for battles they can't fight.

Why weren't you there Hup hup? I made the trip down for both protests on Friday and Saturday in Shannon. Won't you travel for what you believe in instead of writing a quick comment on a website......?

that's a bit fuckin extreme, don'tcha think? dude was being supportive of the march and the protests and pretty much the whole weekend, and seems sincerely regretful that s/he missed out. don't think s/he needs to justify his/her attendance to you or not.

"i made the trip down for both protests" ...

well aren't YOU deadly (not to mention self-righteous)...what a ridiculous attitude to have...

I resent that Ronin! you presumptuous tit, the fact is I live in Sweden and can't afford to travel home and all over creation (don't have the luxury of the dole, if I may be presumptuous). As for what i believe in, it may or may not be the utter futility of affirmitive action, though you'd probably never grasp the arguement(more presumption on my part) I might just believe that being a presumptuous activist preaching my bigoted opinion is the very reason the world is in the sad state it is today, though I doubt you'd grasp that arguement either ( another presumptuous opinionated ad hominem attack, not untypical of almost every post on this site) I might just beleive a humourous and cynical statement is the basis of Irish neutrality, just ask DeValera why we are neutral in the first place. I may or may not have attended marches and demonstrations and worked with aid groups abroad, but I think you like most people are fully capable of making a correct assumption of whether I have or not based on a miniscule and finite collection of presumed facts. (I won't hold my breath for an apology) Still think it looked like a lovely day and would like to have been there and the Gardaí looked like they were having a great time too.

hey, you stole the words right from my fingertips, the ring a ring a rosie thing and pig face pictures also highly amused me. and after lemonade and biscuits they divulged in a nice game of britsh bulldogs dressed in very fetching snazzy riot attire. beware of colourful hippies on sunny days, they may start blowing jimmy jos in your faces and put a daisy chain in your hair.

I was just browsing and came across your site.. If a picture is worth a 1000 words, you people spoke volumes. You have every reason to be proud of your efforts. A lot of the Irish protests were shown on the CBC here in Canada, in a very supportive manner. My mothers family came from Ireland during the Genocide in the 1840's. Seeing your site has made me even more proud of my heritage.

ERIN GO BRAUGH, my spelling is probably wrong, but you know the meaning.
