Best of luck to ye lads! Im based in Cork at the moment but would like to make contact next time im in Dublin and would like to work with ye in future. Its good to see people taking on the direct action approach and working for left unity.
I do have one point to raise with ye though, While I salute ye for aiming to unite Communists, Anarchists and Socialists under the one banner I am slightly dissapointed to see that republicans and republican socialists arent listed.? Perhaps its more a reflection of a failure by republicans to work with the left than any bias on your part. Its great that ye oppose the occupation of Iraq and Palestine as well as supporting the Catalonians, Basques and Kurds but what about the occupation in our own country? Remember there are more British troops in the six counties than Iraq and lets clean up our own doorstep too.
I Note that ye are opposed to all forms of opression and discrimination so I presume ye have a progressive position on the north and are in favour of British demilitariseation. I dont mean to pick at ye when ye are just starting out but I feal we need to work on issues here as well as helping oppressed people abroad.
Again I wish ye the best of luck in what ye are doing and I hope republicans can work with ye and help ye achieve your goals.
maybe i'm being completely paranoid but i find this post a little dodge. Its totally possible that this group is completly genuine but i'm just surprised that they seem to have come straight out of nowhere. We know that various nazi scum check out indymedia and other leftwing and punk websites on a regular basis. We also know they've been following the progress of dissent here. Setting up a false organisation wouldn't be all that bright, or have much point but i wouldn't put it past them.
If this is a genuine group then people will probably hear about them through some of the groups listed in the links section.
Like I said, maybe I'm being paranoid but the site is very short on info...
It's strange the way they namecheck the wombles, even weirder that they talk about opposing the "Immigration Resistence Movement". Those losers never even became a legend in their own heads, google them and all you'll find are derisory references to them on nazi boards. Its hard to imagine how anybody else would have heard of them.
Whats also strange is that the names of some of the organisations linked to are mixed up, or just wrong. Which might just mean that its a rough and ready site rather than anything else... Maybe someone involved in TODAY should turn up at a dissent or wsm meeting or something and announce their group there.
be interesting to hear back from TODAY here on the comments
site is as dodgy as this one...
The language used by this 'alleged' new group is very fishy. Its like a parody of left/libertarian language. So is the specific listing of racist/fascist groups whom they intend to oppose. I would be very wary of making any contact with them until its confirmed that this is a bona fide group. Could any WSM or Organise comrades let us know if they've heard of them.
Don't think we've heard from them but I wouldn't get too paranoid here. School students often set up groups like this, its just that with indymedia being so available its easier to tell the rest of us about them.
As an activist with DISSENT, RTS and in the past FNB I find it odd that this group exists in solidarity with us yet I've not heard anything about them through the grapevine.
Hopefully some1 from this group will post to clarify the situation.
I've set up a little website. I'll be collecting the logs in a little while. Have a look. It's for people interested in left-wing politics.
If anyone wants to get involved in anarchist or socialist groups of any kind they should go directly to such groups. Do not give any information about yourself to unknown groups.
Its hard to imagine Organise! being involved in anyway with a group that supports nationalist struggles, be they Cornwallian or not.
website is so not young activist. someone should mail them the hex for red & black.
It was a joke! Okay?
I posted the article above and made that dummy website just to see what the reaction would be here. I'm not trying to gather anyone's IP address. Indymedia users are mostly accessing the internet from either behind company/university firewalls and NAT routers, or on dynamic IP addresses for their modem dialup accounts at home. So relax and visit the site if you want to.
Your response has been kinda funny really: Some of you sound like "the left" is some sort of country club, where only friends of friends (of the right sort!) are invited to join. What's this -- someone trying something new? B-b-but they haven't applied for a Lefty Permit!
*lol*

the phrase 'too much time on your hands' springs to mind...
I think this was more a case of people wondering what the story was with an obviously suss site rather than lefties trying to be exclusive. After all, most of the anarchist and other left groups spend a lot of time on propaganda - designed to get people interested in ther ideas and involved in their groups, hardly the sort of activity which encourages a standoffish or cliquey attitude.
websites and email lists are great for learning about new ideas and getting in touch with groups you might be interested in. If you want to get involved in attempts to change society however you have to leave the computer (it won't hurt that much) and venture out into the real world and make contact with people.
... mind you if you want to stay strictly online you could join the editorial list on indymedia and become an editor.. they're always looking for new people to get involved. the editorial list can be accessed here: http://lists.indymedia.org/mailman/listinfo/imc-ireland-editorial
and you can check the current editorial guidelines here:http://www.indymedia.ie/editorial.php
I have know idea who posted the above comment but it was not me. I am the one who posted this article yesterday. I am a 15 year old anarchist, who with a communist friend of mine (also 15) decided to set up this group to try to organise and unite all left leaning teenagers. I for many year went to anti -war and reclaim the street type demos but always felt left out for i was not a member of any group. I did not join any anarchist groups for example the WSM or indeed Organise because i felt that i did not know as much about Anarchsim and with most other members being old i would thus feel isolated as being the only young member.
I know of the IRM because of months of checking and reporting on Irish racist groups.
If anyone would honestly like to ask me anymore questions or if they want to find out information please just email me at mailto:Todayeire@hotmail.com
Sorry, dont buy it. The language is suspect, the references to the fascist groups reeks of agent provocateur. Don't touch it with a barge pole. If you're interested in joining an anarchist group try a real one like the WSM or Organise. For socialists/communists try the CPI or ISN.
Hey why don't you come along to the next dissent meeting and get to know some people.
But yeah, you would be more then welcome to come along to the Dissent meeting. (Unless your a cop, were you can just sit your ass outside in dodgy Fords & Renaults! hoHO!)
Im not so sure the group is a neo nazi troll I think we give the fascists too much credit they are not very well organised and judgeing by their internet sites are not very politically astute.
At the moment I see no reason to doubt the group and I wish it good luck if it is genuine. We need more left unity as James Connolly said : " Dont disagree with someone just to show off how well read and well practised you are, Find a common ground and work from it." My origional question still stands without an answer. I would like to see republicans become involved in such projects working towards left unity and real democracy.
I would like to see republicans abandon both the ballot box and the armalite, real democracy can never come from either.
I am glad to see that ye oppose the occupation of Iraq and Palestine? Have ye forgotten about the six-counties or does that occupation not count?
occupation of the six counties! ha! ha! ha!
i agree, RA out!
hey if the six counties are being occupied then would it not follow that the 26 others are also occupied?
Thanks for the support guys. Its hard setting up and running group with only a handful of members.
Just to make the point clear that we never ever said that we had links, connections or an association with the groups in our links page or indeed in the first paragraph. All we have ever said is that we 'support' their actions and most but not all of their beliefs.
Our sole objective is to make the youth of Ireland more active in politics and to educate them in what is happening around them.
We would love to go to a dissent meeting but first we have to organise ourselves i.e print a few leaflets, spread the word amongst schools and hopefully sign up a few new members
all the best,
If you want any more info or if you want to ask any questions please get in touch at mailto:todayeire@hotmail.com
TODAY!
We recieved an email from TODAY shortly after this went on indymedia. It basically just stated their principles of unity and asked us to contact them via email. While we may not agree with the stated principles entirely surely this type of initiative by a couple of youth in Dublin should be welcomed. The best thing to do in relation to disagreement is to discuss it in a comradely fashion surely?
Wouldn't get too paranoid about it and hopefully we'll see TODAY activists at anti-war and other events in the not too distant future. All the best with this initiative.
In Solidarity;

Biz says - "occupation of the six counties! ha! ha! ha!"
Hey Biz, are ya suggesting that there are no British troops occupying the six counties?
Next you'll be saying they are not occupying Iraq either.
i was comparing the level of "occupation" in norn ireland to the level of occupation in the south or britain. are you seriously comparing the "occupation" of the north to the OCCUPATION of Iraq?
If your "comparing the level of 'occupation' in norn ireland to the level of occupation" with Iraq it is worth remembering there are around 7,500 British troops in Iraq but 15,000 in the north. So at least with regard to troop levels the north is if anything the 'more occupied' of the two!
Hey! You shouldn't be slagging off any organisation that's trying to politicise the youth of Ireland. Again well done TODAY, and can you include us in your links section.
