Jordan Peterson should make his mind up about Christianity, critics say. Prof James Alexander disagrees: he's a profound Jungian explorer who wants to help a secularised world see why Christianity still matters.

Mark Zuckerberg's repudiation of Covid-era censorship is welcome. But it's not enough, say Josh Stylman and Jeffrey Tucker. Without a public reckoning they will just do it all again when a cause seems urgent enough.

How neo-liberalism splits families

Last week we all watched as the titular head of the Irish justice Department actively
deported a six year old autistic boy, along with his twin sister and his mother. They
were put on a commercial flight to Lagos, late at night and given enough cash for
an hotel. In the last day a Mexican woman who had sought refuge for 12 months
in a church and had become the voice of economic migrants and illegals in the
US was picked up and deported to Tijuana, leaving behind her, her eight year old
boy Saul.

Elvira Arellano has vowed to continue her fight from the other side of the border.
If we look at the newswire the overwhelming amount of these cases have involved
women and children. No surprises there, they are slower and easier to catch.

Children must be fed.
They need company and peers.
They must be educated.
They require medical care for minor childhood infections.
Oftentimes this means that mothers and children are caught and deported together
or separated. The rules that govern us and our emphasis on family both here and in
the US sees the family as an economic unit and does not raise the status of the
woman to individual ,nor a vulnerable child to individual.

Mr Lenihan has abdicated his care to Great through his refusal to query the overt
racist policies of his pre-decessor. the EU enforced the rules of protection in Ireland
in 2006.

The Asylum Qualification Directive allows Greats family to achieve the required
protection and education for their child and yet it was only introduced by Mc Dowell
in the eleventh hour
http://www.indymedia.ie/article/79003 .

Both economies of the US and Ireland have for too long operated a knowing racism
that mitigates directly against women and children who require the protection of law.

Does the Irish government extend its protection to minorites and support the family
which lies at the heart of the Constitution?

The Asylum Qualification Directive quite clearly allows people to apply for protection under EU
law, Mr Lenihan has not done anything to distance himpself from racism, thus it can be assumed
that FF are in support of the bigotry of the Far Right mc Dowell (funny the way he has not gone away).

The Asylum Qualification directive 2004 was transposed separately into the Irish
Statute in 2006, because of a commitment made by members of the EU to allow
asylum seekers to qualify for protection, I suggest that Great and his sister
do qualify under the provisions.
The protection aspect was transposed before the rest of the bill by the very last
date possible by Mc Dowell, it formed part of his projected:-

'Immigration, Residence and Protection Bill 2006'- which had a requirement for
potential applicants to carry biometric id.

There is a thread on the newswire with links to the explanatory.

However he abolished the mechanisms that were there previously
and all decisions rested solely in his office, this is the legislation
or position that Mr Lenihan was enabled to use.

Other laws pertinent to the case are probably available on http://www.justice.ie
The unfortunate thing for the family is that the deportation happened when most
of the civil and justice servants were 'on summer holidays'.

Protection is not retrospective and it involves a re-application procedure.
As to a plebiscite or referendum on citizenship that informed some of the
laws but not the EU directive.
