GPs and the silence around abortion

category national | rights, freedoms and repression | other press author Tuesday May 20, 2008 17:28author by Peter Sullivan Report this post to the editors

Doctors For Choice was set up in 2002 by doctors, mainly GPs, who want to contribute to ending the silence around abortion in Ireland. In a new article, published in the current (May) edition of Forum magazine (a publication for GPs in Ireland), a member of Doctors For Choice looks at the issue of silence around abortion and general practice in Ireland today.

I always wonder how many GPs would actually support abortion services in Ireland. Despite the best effforts of Doctors for Choice the anti-Choice medical lobby seem much more vocal.

Would be very interesting to see the reaction to this from other GP's. Could you post any follow up in the magazine here in the comments section?

This is a really great article from Mary Favier. Well done! At the end of day, it is medical professionals that will carry out the procedure so it's important to have the support of the medical profession when campaigning for abortion rights.
