Don't be fooled by the 'Britain is growing' fairytales, says David Craig. Any 'growth' is accounted for by the hike in the benefits bill and in civil servants' pay and a heap of other unproductive deficit spending.

Neutrality and The Lisbon Constitution

category international | eu | opinion/analysis author Tuesday June 10, 2008 17:04author by paul o tooleauthor email pauljotoole at eircom dot net Report this post to the editors

Nutrality in Ireland has been reduced in our constitution as nothing more than 'aspirational' by our courts.

It was interesting last night on RTE's Qand A to hear the waffle. Nutrality was mentioned by Michael Martin momentarily then the first interruption thanks to Boorman, was off topic asap.- Shay Given would be proud.

Kenny(FG); while electioneering was against the use of Shannon but has remained mute since.

Libritas's Ganley; is making millions from the Iraq war along with his partners and good friends of Harney-the Mcelvaddy Brothers- from re-fuelling the genocide in Shannon and trying to open up the 'Queen Of Peace' airport up in Knock to rendition.

Mary lou Mac(SF); mentioned Shannon but could not expand lest she be hailed a hypocryte -by those who dont support any party- for accepting the 'peace dividends' in the North which entails investment on a massive scale from the Arms Industry from the UK and the US. No wonder SF gave up the gun and the idiology, theyre in bed now with the biggest guns of them all. Theyve gone from freedom fighting idealists to white collared criminals with their new partners and former enemies.

Martin(FF); couldent expand lest he expose his and his partys hypocracy about the 'triple lock' protection of nutrality while Shannon has brought 1,200,000 innocent raqis to an early grave for Fianna Fail and now the New Green Party. His partys stance on Neutrality is based on Blairs and Bushes lies and 'assurances' from known terrorists they frequently cavort and grovel with.

The 'debate' at this point was obviously stiefled. Marred by the fact that no one could call on either of the others on any substantial point on anything because they are all subbordinated and silenced by their guilt

Someone made a joke about the EU prime minister flying arround flanked by two f-16s, one from the US and the other from Liberitas......

No one mentioned 500,000 widows, 5,000,000 orphans, 1,200,000 dead, 75% of Iraqs children alive are 'wasting' from malnutrition, 7,500,000 displaced civilians, 15 new US airbases 'supporting' the oilfields.

If you can get to a polling booth on Thursday- vote.

If you have a concience vote No.

After the last blowback the european governments had to take from the frensh and the dutch people againat their neoliberal treaty, they luachned now a second attempt to restructure the european government. The aim is to adapt the european decision making process to the neoliberal circumstances. It is supposed to make the decision making process more efficient - which always means taking power from the people.
After all, in most european countries the left movements hope for the Irish, to stop this process. Even though some of the motivs of being against the treaty might be suspicious, the effect of the treaty on european military policy, on nuclear policy and social rights as well as on the few political participation there is left for the people would be terrible. In Germany nevertheless most groups have given up on the topic. As the treaty is supported by all major parties except from the left party, a success of an opposition against the treaty seems to be out of reach. Especially as the treaty is strongly backed by main stream media. Opposition against the treaties is put forward as an anti-european protest, which it is not.
Since the treaties themselves are written in a very abstract way, it is on the other hand very difficult to make people understand what the follow-ups of the treaty would be. So most activists did not join in a campaign that seemed useless, but prefered to hope for the aid of others - in the case the Irish movements to stop the so called Lisbon treaties.

Nutrality?

Neutrality is a non issue with this referendum. If you care about Iraq (i.e have a moral conscience) then you must vote yes. It's as simple as that. A strong Europe would have not let Iraq happen. Vote no means one thing and one thing only - Ireland will go more towards USA.
