Mark Zuckerberg's repudiation of Covid-era censorship is welcome. But it's not enough, say Josh Stylman and Jeffrey Tucker. Without a public reckoning they will just do it all again when a cause seems urgent enough.

Shoppers urged to 'look behind the label'

Stop Child Labour Campaign

Christmas shoppers in Galway are being urged to 'look behind the label' when doing their Christmas shopping in the coming weeks. The National Youth Campaigners from Concern's 'Stop Child Labour' campaign met in Galway recently and declared their commitment to encouraging awareness and action on this issue.

The campaigners, hosted by the SpunOut.ie National Youth Organisation, are highlighting that up to 218 million children worldwide are involved in the manufacture of products such as chocolate, clothing and toys.

The campaign is about '"young people uniting with other young people around the world and standing by them and their right to a fair life"
according to Youth Campaigner Rachel Clancy. Galway people are encouraged to ask questions about where their products are made, to shop ethically and to log on to www.stopchildlabour.net for more information.

Well done for highlighting this issue. However.... if you rea;;y want change to be made, you have to name and shame.z\ The average Joe is simply noy going to quiz Dunnes ot Penneys etc as to where the items come from.

A geat campaign idea, which I am totally behind, but honestly i think this post will do no good. Name and shame the child abusers. Primark (Pennys) are one. Shout at people to not shop there. Otherwise your campaign will be innefectual. Much as i agree with it.

And what do you suggest might be acheived by knockin off millions of underage workers ?
The world is so fast and furious that the baby in the buggy we see today might just end up in a managerial position at age 10.
Why should it not happen when it is in fact ,just toddle off to London and sneak around the ''sweatshops'' where a very large % of ''ladies garments''
are turned out at an even faster rate than ever before by underage children who never complain .
Me , i worked in a butcher shop at age 11 after school for 25 bob a week inc saturday delivering legs of lamb on white butchers trays to the well off and
my parents were glad of the money and i was glad to be out from under their feet.

Cowen & Co are now wondering how to entice Southern Money away from The Wee North as the British government has introduced a 15% vat rate.
Should make for an interesting build up to job losses post christmas 08.
