news report
Sunday May 10, 2009 21:49 by Kev - IPSC (definitely in a pers cap) info at ipsc dot ie
A short report with audio, video and photos The Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) were present at this year's Mayday march in Dublin City. The IPSC formed one of the biggest contingents in a very poorly attended demonstration. I can't say for definitely, but it was suggested, several times by different people in attendance, that this was the smallest Dublin mayday march ever - why this was the case is not for me to say. The IPSC were also represented on the speakers platform, where Freda Hughes of the IPSC Executive Committee spoke on the role Trade Unions and their members can play in the campaign for Justice for Palestine, with particular reference to the boycott and divestment campaign. Video and audio of the speech is below, and there is a transcript can be read here: http://cosmos.ucc.ie/cs1064/jabowen/IPSC/ipsc/displayRe...117#1

Approaching Liberty Hall
This march was swarfed by the cannabis march - fiar play to them but whats become of the mayday march?
All that cash and they cant promote what should be the biggest workers celebration day of the year.
I guess theres not much for workers to celebrate bercause of the complete lack of backbone displayed by the unions in general.
Shame.
Half assed and a week late. This about sums up union leadership at the moment if the celebration of May day is anything to go by.
There's an election on. It was a good time for unions to try to engage with people and show them why
unions are needed now more than ever
What did they do on Mayday instead.
They had a concert at 25 euro a ticket. !!
I'm sure all the songs were sung at the concert and in the pubs around after.
The DCTU version of The Internationale was no doubt sung.
"Comrades come gather
And the barman let us face.
While at James Connolly's statue
Of them there was no trace"
To be fair, while agreeing with much of the criticism arising from the size of the 'Mayday' march, the concert at Liberty Hall on May 1st would not have interfered with any march as it was held in the evening.
Peace Team to Continue Praying for Entry into Gaza at Border
RAFAH, Egypt - The six members of a Catholic Worker Peace Team from
California, Connecticut, Massachusetts, North Carolina, and Vermont
spent 16 hours today in an unsuccessful effort to convince Egyptian
authorities to allow them to enter Gaza, where physicians at the Al
Shifa Hospital and children at the Rschel Corrie Center are waiting
for them to deliver medical supplies and toys. Starting at about 4 PM,
the group knelt in front of the border crossing and prayed the Rosary
to persuade the officials to allow them to pass. The group continued
periodic prayers until 10 PM, when an Egyptian colonel gave his word
that the group would be allowed to return to the border at 6:30 the
following morning. The group intends to resume praying as soon as they
arrive at the border.
A spokesperson for the group, Mark Colville from New Haven, said, "We
fear that neither the Egyptian nor the US government want
international eyewitnesses to report on humanitarian conditions inside
Gaza. One result of the closure of Gaza's borders is the increase of
suffering and death of Palestinian civilians, as basic necessities are
not allowed through."
A number of Palestinians, including medical professionals thanked the
Catholic Workers for their efforts to open the borders.

From the article above :
" The team plans to visit two Jewish settlements in Hebron tomorrow and to tour the Israeli separation wall around Jerusalem and Bethlehem. "
WTF are the Catholic Workers doing visiting Settlers in or around Hebron. The most notoriously bigotted and violent settlers of all are located in that area.
What possible good can visiting then bring about ?

So you think they should be left to wallow in ignorance?
