Irelands Shameless Bankers

Shameless Banker
Shameless Banker

On the 24th of July Permanent TSB announced that they were increasing their mortgage rates for 50,000 customers. Despite no corresponding rate increase in from the ECB, this announcement was been quickly followed by statements from other mortgage lenders saying that mortgage rates were “inevitable”. It is becoming clear all other banks are waiting to see if Permanent TSB succeeds in their rate increase.

What these banks fail to remember is that the same people they are exploiting to feed their profits through increased mortgage rates were forced to rescue them last September. Brian Lenihan announced the Bank guarantee scheme in September 2008. This saw ordinary people in Ireland effectively become guarantors for the bank loans. We were told that if these banks didn’t receive our guarantee they would collapse. Since then we have seen billions of taxpayers money poured into these same banks through recapitalisation schemes whilst ordinary people face pay cuts and job losses. It is no coincidence that the public coffers are now short of the billions needed to run essential public services.

In an illustration of their contempt for ordinary people now TSB have increased these mortgage rates extracting money to keep their profits high. All the other banks are clearly watching Permanent TSB to see if they can get away with profiteering from ordinary people despite the fact we are already reeling from government cuts they are responsible for. We have heard so much about how we all need to “share the pain”. The real question is when will the Irish banks feel the pain?

A newly formed group “Enough is Enough” is organising a protest at permanent TSB headquarters to demonstrate that Irish banks need to realise they cannot make us feel the pain any longer. They helped create the recession through reckless lending; the time has come for them to stop making us feel the pain.
Enough is Enough!

If 'Punter' is asking if the EIE group is a front for some other political grouping, then the answer is no. As Sean said, its like minded people who've had enough of the shameless bankers and their facilitators in this country. Hope to see you there today.

"This column will give me the chance to look at the good, the bad and the ugly."

Bertie only has to look in the mirror (No...not the Daily Mirror.) to see the bad and the ugly.

The fact that he even reads an illiterate rag like the News of the World (Rightly dubbed the "Gutter Press.)speaks volumes about the quality of Irish leadership over the last few years.

And the one sure way to do that we now have in our grasp - The Lisbon Referendum Mark 11 . We now have it within our grasp to smash Lisbon, thereby Smash the System and liberate the peoples of Europe !!!

Then we would have an Immediate General Election with the Defeat of Lisbon, and with no automatic guarantee of the Return of the Blueshirts plus Hard Labour to form the next Government either, with Fianna Fail demolished for at least the next twenty years, what a Prize :-)

There will be a big Leftist Vote in Dublin and Urban Areas returning our New Left Councillors to the Dail, this would form one of the most socialist governments ever - and all before Xmas if we manage to defeat Lisbon which is now within our grasp.

The FFers, FG, Labourites, Greens etc show no appetite to return to the doorsteps after the wrath they experienced on those very same doorsteps from the people leading up to the June Local Elections, whereas we are welcomed with open arms ( we have already started the doorstepping in Kilkenny and it's looking like NO again !!! ) .

So, Comrades, get your asses out there on the doorsteps now, you'll be amazed at the warm welcome from the people for us NO campaugers !

The People right across Europe are depending on us for their Freedom to Vote on Lisbon too, so let's work all together for Victory For Europe Against Lisbon Day for a new Socialist European Union where passports will be a thing of the past, where nationalities will all disappear in a True United Europe of the People.

( Don't worry, the people are not taking these vicious Banker-Govt imposed cuts lying down, we will win, we shall overcome ) .

It is not only the banks that have contempt for the people, their friends in government also share this arrogant attitude. The government are alowing the banks to do exactly what they did before, to bring this country to its knees. Of course they pretend that they have the interests of the tax payer in mind. In reality they have the interests of their friends in mind. This is the Fianna fail ethic.
Unfortunately the people still allow this corrupt political system to rule. When you elect crooks you get crime.
It will be ongoing for us if we do not organise against what is happening in ireland.
VOTE NO TO LISBON. the choice is on a treaty not weather we remain in the European Union this is just another scam to make us afraid.

A man not unacquainted with banks and how they work, or don't, it is perhaps fitting that at this time ex-Taoiseach Bertie Ahern should announce that he is to be a sports columnist with the Irish edition of 'The News of the World' newspaper. It's not exactly Mayor of Dublin, but one takes what one is offered in these hard times. Sport, as those following his tribunal interrogations will recall, was very good to him. “It’s no secret that I am sports-mad and this column will give me the chance to look at the good, the bad and the ugly of Irish and international sport,” said Mr Ahern." (The Irish Times) From Manchester United to the Galway Races, Bertie will bring us the inside low-down. So long as he doesn't keep changing the story. Thus politics descends into farce and serious issues are tossed aside.

It seems that permanent TSB were fying a kite for the rest of the banks. AIB said they thought that interest rates were too high! now and an increase was "inevitable" (http://www.breakingnews.ie/ireland/aib-no-intention-to-....html). The banks are really unbelievable that they have the gaul to do this now.
