WSM take part in European anarchist conference

category international | anti-capitalism | news report author Tuesday February 16, 2010 13:04author by Andrew - WSM Anarkismo secauthor email wsm_ireland at yahoo dot com Report this post to the editors

Over the weekend of February 5th the Workers Solidarity Movement sent delegates to Paris to take place in a European conference of the groups involved in Anarkismo.net. Anarkismo.net is a multi-lingual news and analysis site made up of 31 organisations around the world who agree with the Anarkismo.net editorial statement*. WSM members were involved in founding this project almost five years ago, this was the first formal meeting of some of the groups involved.

The conference agreed a brief statement to be published as below

" Meeting of European Anarkismo groups in Paris
This weekend delegates from six European anarchist organisations met in Paris for a European conference of Anarkismo.net groups.
Members of Alternative Liberataire from France, Organisation Socialiste Libertaire from Switzerland, Workers Solidarity Movement from Ireland, Liberty & Solidarity from Britain, Federazione dei Comunisti Anarchici from Italy and Counter Power from Norway spent the weekend debating and agreeing a set of texts and proposals. These included proposals to improve communication between our different organisations, to develop common understanding and strategies with regards to workplace organisation, migration and the European Union. We also informed each other of the current struggles happening in our respective countries and the development of our organisations."

We also agreed to publish two of the texts we had spent the weekend debating. These were the texts on the European Union http://www.anarkismo.net/article/15815 and on Migrations and Migrations into Europe http://www.anarkismo.net/article/15836 You will find translations of these documents into a number of languages on Anarkismo.net A number of other motions were also agreed which are more organisational / technical in scope along the issues covered in the public statement. These describe how work is to be carried out in order to campaign on the identified issues and prepare documentation for the next European meet up of Anarkismo groups.

At the start of the conference the WSM presented a detailed report on the WSM and its involvement in struggles in Ireland. The other organisations did likewise and these alongside the informal discussions between those attending the conference has greatly expanded our knowledge of the activity of the European anarkismo organisations. We hope this conference becomes the first step in an ongoing process of improving co-operation between Anarkismo groups in Europe and in encouraging others to get involved in Anarkismo both on the European and global level.
