What's the difference between scepticism and cynicism? Cynicism is especially necessary for assessing politics, says Prof James Alexander, as it sits below scepticism, making us question the motives of those who rule us.

Cooley Environment getting speakers on track for 2011 workshop
The CEHG met in the Strand Hotel Omeath Sunday 10th October. It can be revealed that they have 10 speakers now confirmed for their annual workshop to date. The theme for this 2011 workshop is OBESITY. The event is being held in The Strand Hotel Saturday 29th January 2011 from 2 PM until 5.30 PM. Admission is free and all are welcome to attend.

The meeting heard “Obesity has become a great issue with many and we are a society that are grossly becoming over weight”! The workshop addresses these controversies and hopes to let us hear what the speakers have to say. For example are we over weight or is it just a fallacy. If so, - what can we do about it – and what happens if we do nothing? We can explore the weight related diseases and see what impact they have if any on our lives and what cost to the economy and society especially in terms of the current economic climate when government cuts are very to the fore.

The next meeting of the group is Saturday 13th November @ 3 PM. See website: www.cooleyehg.com

Obesity.

I thought you lads were supposed to be tending to the souls.
It doesn't say which Christian sect you represent, but I would have thought, given the tenets of your founder's testament, that your preoccupations might have been a bit more focussed on the discrepancies between the wealthy and the increasingly impoverished in our lopsided society. After all, a lot of that obesity stems from cheap, non-nutritious food being pumped through advertising by those who can afford gym fees and healthy 'lifestyles'.

Come to think of it, I haven't seen an undernourished priest recently. But that could be because they have to drive such modern cars and dont get the opportunity to walk too much.

But then, as an animist(pagan to you), I would be wondering how you can remain within the fold of an organisation with such a history of betrayal of the teaching of that rebel rabbi who so upset the Sanhedrin by challenging their exclusive sectarianism against the goyim's access to their cordoned salvation that he had to be given a special rendition and terminated with extreme prejudice in a 'wet' operation.
But then, the rack he was strung on is your symbol.
And, speaking of special renditions, how come none of ye vocal churchmen of so many faiths have so much to say about the battallions of troops streaming through our civil airbase at Shannon for an imperial war that makes the Roman eagle look like a Norwegian Blue in mating plumage?Might the devil be in them thar military details?

Or could it possibly be cranial obesity is the real drawback?

We live in a society where ,we are on the internet, watching T.V,if your child is energetic, give them an ADDERAL tablet,or prozac if they are upset.
Why does anybody need gym membership, because we are too busy to walk,we drive to our local shop,we drive to our local workplace,or if work is 30 + miles away we have to commute, our government should provide proper public transport, and we should demand it,this is why our quality of life is so poor.

The picture shows Dermot Mooney, chairperson, and Archbishop Michael Desmond Hynes OMD, secretary, in The Strand, Omeath, Co Louth, on Sunday morning 10 October 2010 after breakfast and during the meeting of Cooley Environmental and Health Group reported on above.

The group is very well disposed towards indymedia and all its contributors and readers and we would be delighted to host a representative or group from indymedia at our 11th annual winter workshop which is due to start in The Strand at 14.00 on Saturday 29 January 2011. An excuse for indymedia people to get together?

I have been fascinated for a few years by the quiet grassroots action of Cooley Environmental & Health group. Their posts on indymedia have been upfront, unassuming and without rancour. I am sure that some interesting quiet conversations are in store for any regular visitors to the indymedia threads who turn up at the advertised meeting. Who's afraid of some mutually respectful interaction?

...for our ubiquitous mother church to keep her vested fingers on the public pulse?

Divest, then we might meet.Shed your need for heirarchy and rejoin the human race. We need a post-Roman ethics, not your pyramid of privilege and power based on distortion and superstition.
