Support Our Communities, Not Imperialism

category international | anti-capitalism | press release author Monday April 25, 2011 23:15author by Republican Network for Unity - Republican Network For Unity Report this post to the editors

Many generations have long since passed and many corrupt governments have come and gone. But there is still one thing that remains in Ireland to this very day, in an ever present state, that has long been disregarded and continually ignored by any one of these shady governments that has ever rose to ‘power.’ That is, the neglected Irish working class communities throughout the country.
Support Our Communities, Not Imperialism
Support Our Communities, Not Imperialism

As people started off on a new year with promises of new beginnings and change, the working class communities in the North and South of Ireland still remain subjected to horrendous exploitation caused by a great class divide. This downtrodden divide has been meticulously fabricated by the exertion of an imperialist and capitalist system that continues to oppress the workers in Ireland today.

In today’s ‘modern’ Ireland, the working class families of this country are still suffering from poor health due to the lack of treatment and hospital facilities available. And with the ever increasing presence of unemployment and poverty at an all time high, the well being of many citizens in this country are at an even greater risk now more than ever before.

Many Council homes throughout the country remain in poor, dilapidated and inhabitable conditions and they have been this way now for a very long time. The neglecting parties involved are none other than the City Council, coupled with the British and Irish States who continue to neglect the working class communities in defiance of international law, “United Nations Article 11, General Comment 4, The Right To Adequate Housing”

But not only are these homes a serious health risk to the families living there, they are also a heavy burden on the families who are forced in times of economic turmoil, to pay high rent for living in such horrible conditions. And to say that our hospitals are being neglected would be some what of an understatement.

In the South of Ireland we continue to witness as hundreds of working class communities suffer through sheer neglect by the State who continues to, reject the economic rights of the Irish working class while continuing to collaborate with an oppressive imperialist power that has decimated and thwarted the economic rights of many working class families both here and abroad.

This overbearing ill-treatment of the working class communities was fashioned and formed by the hands of an elite minority. It is they who continue to grasp with an iron fist and enslave the economic rights of the Irish working class. Today as we see the continuation of the capitalist mode of production, the privatisation of our commodities and the continued exploitation and systematic abuse of taxpayer’s money, mass unemployment and poverty continues to rise. Many families are being driven into the realm poorhouse as social injustice continues to prevail.

But just when you think things can’t get any worse for the struggling working class communities in Ireland and to rub salt into the wound. The Irish State is now going to spend upwards of up to, fifteen million Euros, to welcome the figure head of global imperialism onto Irish soil on the 18th of May, all of which will happen in the face of a crippled economy and all of which will happen at the expense of the Irish tax-payer.

And while the British Queen sits around in Farmleigh, between sips of tea and grovelling politicians at the expense of the Irish taxpayer, much needed funding for underprivileged communities and neglected hospitals will continue to elude those who need it most. With poverty reaching pandemic levels and as our hospitals remain in a crisis, it is quite apparent and plain for all to see that the States spending priorities do not lie with the working class communities needs in Ireland today.

Globally, millions of people have suffered every time this imperialist regime has raised its ugly head. It is this regime, who has on a number of occasions, defied international law and waged war against indefensible countries while wreaking havoc and death upon its citizens, most notably, Iraq and Afghanistan. Billions upon Billions of taxpayer’s money is being wasted to prop up these unjustifiable wars, while at the same time, desolation and poverty continues to rise and millions of people worldwide continue to suffer. And it is this imperialist regime that is also inextricably linked to the centuries-old rejection by the British to give Ireland back her independence and release her from the shackles of economic oppression.

The Republican Network for Unity demands that the Irish State immediately and fully withdraws the invitation to visit Ireland giving to the Imperialist, Elizabeth Windsor.

Instead, we demand that the State uses the money involved, to make better, the living conditions of the neglected and forgotten Irish working class communities across the divide.

Statement ends.
