The police killing of Mark Duggan resulted in four nights of rioting across England. The immediate trigger was the killing itself, and the disrespect shown by the police to Mark’s family and friends. But the riots rapidly broadened to expressions of a more general anger and alienation; an anger that was all too often unfocused and striking out at the nearest target of opportunity. This resulted in widespread destruction of resources in already deprived neighborhoods and some anti-social attacks on bystanders. Despite this, the roots of the riots lie in the economic and political conditions of these districts, and not in ‘poor parenting’ or ‘mindless criminality’. These conditions were created by the very politicians and business elite who now call for a return to normality and repression.

Next Tuesday, like every tuesday is the open assembly for DRY-Dublin. On the 12th from 7 till 7.30 there will be a short presentation about what has been going on in the streets of Barcelona over the last 2 monhs, from the occupation of Placa Catalunya, to extreme violence from the police, to amazing growth of bottom up grassroots movement, to the parliament being blocked peacfully and the government having to be flown in by helicopter, to a quarter million marching through the streets of the city all demanding "Real Democracy Now!!!"

It has been said that we live in a business run society which is characterised by business parties masquerading as political parties and a 'political class' that implements policies which more often than not puts the interests of 'big business' ahead of the well being of the general populace. The unprecedented nature of bank bailouts in this country along with continued and debatable payments to bondholders with an apparent absence of serious public consultation let alone a referendum on matters with such wide-ranging and generational consequences seems to lend some credence to this characterisation of modern society. ... read full story / add a comment

international / anti-capitalism / news report Monday June 27, 2011 - 00:53 by Diarmuid Breatnach   image 1 image
The 15 M movement in Madrid is a broad one which at one moment raises general slogans of an apparently reformist kind and the next is calling for the capitalists to pay the costs of the crisis it created and for a general strike. It is energetic and coming up with different methods of internal democracy in the neighbourhood assemblies and central coordination and adapting traditional methods of protest. On the 19th streams of people marched from many different areas and met at the Neptuno monument, near the Spanish parliament. ... read full story / add a comment

Our annual school – the Communist University – takes place in a world in flux. The near hysterical euphoria that surrounded the election of Barack Obama in 2008 has evaporated as US foreign policy is characterised by aggressive continuity – for all the flatulent talk of “change”. Change has come to the Arab world – from below. Millions have risen in defiance of batons and bullets in a revolutionary fight for democracy and freedom.

In the UK, we have see the first stirrings of revolt from the trade union movement against austerity and cuts with the gargantuan March 26 demo and talk of coordinated strike action. The movement across the rest of Europe is further advanced. We have seen huge mobilisations in Ireland, Greece and Spain. The battle lines are drawn. ... read full story / add a comment

J15-Catalan police used agent provocateurs in attempt to destroy M15 peaceful revolutionary movement
international / anti-capitalism / news report Thursday June 16, 2011 - 09:02 by #SpanishRevolution   text 16 comments (last - tuesday june 21, 2011 - 10:46)   image 17 images   video 3 video files
The M15 peaceful revolutionary movement in Spain has had profound success and has grown and still is growing. It has inspired similar things to happen in further afield, as Bob Dylan sang "The times they are a changin".

Yesterday we saw on the streets of Barcelona, the second sinsister move by the Catalan state / region, the first being the well publicised extreme violent action by the Mossos (Catalan police) on M27. What we saw was the open use of "agents provocateurs" in an attempt to split the movement, discredit the movement, give fuel to those (politicians, media...) who wish to see this #SpanishRevolution come to a quick end.

Well they have failed, their agents were caught on camera, watch the video, all is VERY VERY clear - Who are they real violent ones in this situation. M15 movement remains peaceful. We are winning. ... read full story / add a comment

We are the outraged, the anonymous, the voiceless. We were there, silent but alert, watching. Not gazing upward at the powers that be, but looking from side to side for the right time to unite with each other.

No political party, association or trade union represents us. Nor do we want them to, because each and every one of us speaks for her or himself. Together, we want to design and create a world where people and nature come first, before economic interests. We want to design and build the best possible world. Together we can and we will. Conflict over resources has been a particularly strong feature of the last 500 years or a period regarded by some commentators as the five centuries of global capitalist expansion, begun by Christopher Columbus and followed up by the brutal conquistadors such as Hernan Cortes and Francisco Pizarro, who searched for 'Eldorado', the city of gold. Millions of indigenous Indians from the islands of the Caribbean down the spine of Central America to the mountains of Bolivia, toiled the fields and mines to serve European monarchies who, on the back of exploited labour, built ostentatious cathedrals and palaces as, according to Eduardo Galeano in 'Open Veins of Latin America', tens of millions of souls perished from this earth. ... read full story / add a comment

21 May · 12:00 - 17:00
Location: Grand Parade, Cork City Centre

Spain is currently delivering a massive protest in order to demand a true Democracy now! We would like to meet up in the city centre of Cork on Saturday morning to give them our support and spread the word in everywhere.
Please, collaborate if you feel committed with the cause and tell the Spanish Government and the Spanish Parties that we really want a True Democracy instead of the two-party system we have.
There's a system fail...ure and people should be before the markets, speculators, bankers and politicians. Join us and demand the same in Ireland. We have a common cause.

We would need people available to participate with the organization.
