Bishop Christopher Senyonjo has been described as the Ugandan bishop Tutu. He is currently on a visit to Ireland speaking against the Anti-Homosexuality Bill currently making its way through the Ugandan parliament. The bill prescribes the death penalty for consensual sexual acts between LGBT people. The bill is partly the outcome of the activities of American pentacostalists working in the country. Christopher has been ostracised by his fellow bishops in Uganda for his stance. Below is a rush transcript of the interview. read full story / add a comment

Just when you thought thinks couldn't get any worse: now women are blamed for earthquakes! A senior Iranian cleric says women who wear revealing clothing and behave promiscuously are to blame for earthquakes. Iran is one of the world's most earthquake-prone countries, and the cleric's unusual explanation for why the earth shakes follows a prediction by the president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, that a quake is certain to hit Tehran and that many of its 12 million inhabitants should relocate. read full story / add a comment

This long interview is on the current political and social situation in Iran. The section excerpted here concerns the woman question and the role of Iranian women in the recent struggle that we are reprinting on the occasion of 8th March, International Women’s Day. Shahrzad Mojab is an Iranian women activist and researcher who left Iran in 1983. She is the author of numerous papers and books on Iranian women, Kurdish women, and women in war zones.
