The Irish Climate Camp will take place this year at Victoria Bridge, County Tyrone, from the 12th to the 16th of August. The camp is taking place in support of the local community and their opposition to the proposed new A5 – a project that will cost a lot of money, a lot of energy (carbon emissions) and really makes no logical sense since vehicle numbers using that route have decreased considerably over recent years. Climate camp Ireland is a group of individuals that believe in taking direct action to prepare for and mitigate the effects of climate change. The camp is open to anyone to attend, and will host numerous workshops on many aspects of climate change. read full story / add a comment

Instead of being "cannon fodder for the Russian masses on the German plains," Queen's shilling Irishmen can now engage in imperial conquest in Afghanistan. Happily, they are "not stepping off to Afghanistan with the words of the prime minister ringing in their ears.” Ovinely, “they are going because the guy next to them is going.” read full story / add a comment

Today’s Irish Independent features a rather poor attempt at a hatchet job of left wing activism in Ireland. Will Hanafin decided to hang around several left wing protests at the request of the Irish Independent. What emerges is a tale of him meeting middle-aged women and humourless platitudes. Of course maybe “far-left protesters” are just humourless individuals or idiots, as Hanafin seems to suggest. read full story / add a comment

The weekly Friday protests in Nabi Saleh against the theft of village land for the construction of the illegal Israeli "settler" colony of Halamish have the reputation as the most violent in the West Bank and yesterday's confirmed this hitherto perception: Once the peaceful demonstrators reached the line of army jeeps and soldiers blocking their passage, some were manhandled to the ground and coordinator of the protests; Bassem Tamimi received rough handling, later Jonathan Shapiro an Israeli with live conscience and strong for Palestine was violently arrested. read full story / add a comment
