SVP highlight numbers struggling with waste collection charges

category dublin | bin tax / household tax / water tax | news report author Thursday May 20, 2004 18:12author by Anti-Bin Tax Activist Report this post to the editors

From the Indo's breaking news

The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul has urged people to make waste collection charges an issue in the local elections.

The charity has said increasing numbers are calling its helpline for assistance due to the privatisation of public service providers, which refuse to offer waiver systems for those on low incomes.

Society Vice-President John Monaghan has said people who are not even on social welfare are contacting them. "At the head office on the Cabra Road, which only deals with the Dublin area, the number of calls to the society in April 2002 was about 350 in a month. In 2003 it had gone up to 550, and April this year it had gone up to over 1200. Many of those were first time callers, people who are in work but on low pay and are struggling."

Fianna Fail are set to escalate the stealth taxes such as rubbish charges to a level which will make the present charges seem innocous. But only when they consolidate their grip on power in the next general election. The local elections will be a test run for these charges.
It now appears that Fianna Fail feel so confident ,that in consequence of their generous benchmarking handouts to a large sector of the electorate,-and their reliance on the always solid farming community vote who recieve so many subsidies and supports,at the expense of taxpayers Europewide-that they can now give the thumbs up to the poor ,the underpaid, and the working class communities in our larger cities.
This is a full scale war between the weak, and the voiceless in our communities and the most corrupt administration in the history of the irish republic.
Sad fact is ,..this mafiosi will win.!
S.V.P. Expect more of the same in the coming months and years ahead.
The Tigers are feeding.

Yesterday the EU passed the motion allowing for the introduction of GM crops and food in Europe.

Recently the Irish Farmers Association released a press releasing condeming GMOs and urge to keep Ireland GM free
See Irish Farmers Association Opposes Commercial Release of GM Crops
http://www.indymedia.ie/newswire.php?story_id=64665

Ireland has decided to concentrate it's R&D research in two areas: Information Technology and Biotechnology. As a result, both FF and PD have been pro GM in the extreme.

Irish people and farmers do not want GM and yet it is being forced upon us. The farmers rightly recognise this is going to finish them off. So here we have Fianna Fail harming the very people they traditionally rely upon.

BTW: Farmers come in two basic groups; the poor and rich farmers. There are far more poor farmers than rich farmers. Poor farmers holdings are typically quite small, anything from a few acres up to around 50 acres or so. Rich or big farmers generally have much larger farmers that can be up to 1000s of arcres in size. Big farmers despite their relatively low numbers, receive the bulk of farming subsidies. Big farmers are run more like big businesses and farming is on an industrial scale.

However in the next few years many of the small farmers will be forced to retire and therefore off the land, so we cannot take any comfort from the hope that they might actually fight back against FF and even unite with those in the cities who are being screwed by the people.

It is strange that, ,while statistics indicate that the larger 'big business'farms receive the bulk of the subsidies from the C.A.P.,(and indeed from the U.S.government ,in America)yet the smaller one's have not found a way to make this social issue more relevent in the new Europe.
Clearly there will not be enough money in the pot for everyone in the coming years-so why do the smaller farmers not challenge this unjust situation?
If small farmers are'uneconomic'and should disappear-why do big farmers deserve (and receive)the lions share of taxpayers support and subsidies?
