Jump To Comment: 1 2 3 4I love your posters. What a shame SIPTU doesn't realise the truth in them.
siptu dont realise because they accept the neo-liberal agenda plus they wont fight the bin tax and as one activist said to me "if it wasnt for the union leaders this would have been won months ago"
The last Dublin Regional Conference of SIPTU voted overwhelmingly to continue its opposition to the bin tax. So logic follows that SIPTU would adopt the position of non-cooperation with the City Council employers in the implementation of an unjust tax but in fact the opposite has been the case. SIPTU representatives have been involved in negoitating new pay rates and work practises in exchange for the implementation of the new system of the bin tax in the various depots around the Dublin region. Essentially SIPTU has agreed to implement non-collection.
So now we see workers, many of whom refuse to pay this tax and most of whom are opposed to it, being forced, through lack of leadership from their union representatives, to implement such a regressive and unjust tax. Fortunately the anger of working class communities has not been directed at the workers but at the Council which is using every draconian method possible to squash resistance to the Bin Tax. Maybe now is the time to direct some of that anger at the leadership of SIPTU for their disgraceful role in this struggle.
IIRC the local government branch had a motion down trying to defeat SIPTU's current stance on the bin tax (probably put up to it by the EC).
It was defeated but it looks like the motion has been ignored. Democracy me arse.
