Raising awareness of the plight of a fellow-citizen under Shell's tyranny in 21st -Century Ireland

Members of the Cork and Kinsale Shell to Sea groups held information stalls on their respective main streets to keep the imprisonment of Pat 'the Chief' O'Donnell in the eye of the genneral public.

Spreading the word

On Saturday 17th last, for nearly 2 hours in the afternoon, 4 members of Cork Shell to Sea distributed leaflets to the city's shoppers and acquainted them with the plight of their fellow citizen Pat O'Donnell, who has been jailed at Shell's behest for 7 months in Castlerea on foot of a conviction for public order and 'assault' charges that are spurious to say the least. Pat has stood up valiantly for his right to fish the waters of Mayo, as have four generations of his family before him, and has stood steadfastly in solidarity with his neighbours in opposing Shell's plans for an onshore refinery, raw gas pipeline and marine discharge pipe in the barony of Erris in Co. Mayo. Many copies of a leaflet outlining Pat's treatment at the hands of Shell and its agents (the Gardai and IRMS mercenaries to name but two) and copies of the 'Someday Independent' were distributed to the Cork public by the S2S volunteers. Many pre-addressed and stamped postcards to send to Pat in prison were also distributed.

A second awareness-raising stall was held in Kinsale today (Tues.) by members of the Kinsale Shell to Sea group. As in Cork on Saturday, the team distributed leaflets on Pat's plight and the 'Someday Independent', and more postcards were taken by people to be sent to Pat in Castlerea Prison. More stalls will be held to keep Pat's jailing in the public eye for as long as he is still in prison
