Last summer's riots weren't mainly about immigration, says Chris Williamson. They were the fruit of policies such as Net Zero that have impoverished the UK and created an alienated underclass that is screaming to be heard.

Berlin: Police crush austerity protests

"Herr Merklers" taste of honey for Europe

German police smash anti-cuts demo as parliament passes austerity bill

Merkels taste of honey - austerity Europe

Today we have witnessed how the rulers of Europe plan to deal with austerity protests. This morning the majority of the German federal parliament in the capital Berlin, the Bundestag, has passed a new household bill to "fight the crisis" - which in effect means hitting the most poor in society, the ill and the handycapped, and diverting the money into the bankers pockets, - just as the Irish government is set to do.

Thousands have tried to put a siege to parliament. But using alleged threats of "islamic terrorists" the Merkel government had put central Berlin under siege law. Large parts surrounding parliament were sealed of with mettal barriers and protected by the police.

A protest called for by the Left party, some regional sections of trade unions and groups of the radical left started at 10 in the morning at Brandenburg gate. It was joined by a Berlin wide school student protest. Protesters tried to get into the cordoned off area. Also some protesters attempted to occupy the German Tory party HQ.

The march didn´t get were far... Police baton charged and crushed the demonstration with utmost force.

This is what austerity Europe looks like. Welcome to hard times.

Frau Merkel gave anyone who wants to oppose the IMF campaign which has created havoc in Greece, Ireland, Portugal... a taste of honey .
